Two of the coins in the 25th set have an inverse correlation, that must be in FIN 102.image

I just don't see any cooling that some are talking about.

I listed a box of 2 sealed and in one hour I had offers and it sold BIN for $1900

Sold my pair of sealed sets, ended on Ebay last night for over $1900. Couldn't be happier, definitely a case of a bird in the hand here. Even if these sets go up to $5,000 each you won't hear me complaining about leaving money on the table! Well, it helps that I still have a single sealed set tucked away image

Possibly...but I guess it depends on how you define a fool.

Aren't the 20th Anniversary raw sets still going for 3x (or more) of issue price?

That would ultimately be around $900 for this set...and for a significantly lower mintage (and nicely packaged) product.

  • << <i>Anyone who holds this crap for the long term is a fool. >>

Just like the fools who bought those awful PanPac golden slugs a hundred years ago? To say modern mint products will never be worth anything requires you to ignore history, but that's an easy thing to do for a lot of folks image.

  • << <i>Anyone who holds this crap for the long term is a fool. >>

Really?? How about flipping a few to hold the others long term at zero net cost??? Sounds like a no brainer to me....

Us "normal" submitters are watching the Big Boys drop the market...but this will eventually base out and find true value..

I bought MANY 20th MS69 sets at around $150-160 after the surge...did very well with those. I'll do better with these

Rarely do I see a modern collector bash a classic series. But there seems to be plenty of classic collectors who just love to bash moderns.

I know, right? Look at all those fools who bought and held the 1995 anniversary sets and have seen their $999 purchase reduced in value to a mere $6,000 over the years.

Mainly because the classic dudes don't see 100% to 200% return on their investments in a month or so unless they steal, er, I mean buy some old granny's coin collection for nearly nothing and earn a "You Suck" award. Besides, todays moderns are tomorrows classics. They haven't figured that out yet.

Yes, price will eventually drop. But the million dollar question is from what price level.
A typical market speculation process has three steps

step 1, chip accumulation phase (are we now still in this phase?)
step 2, pop (start around the FUN time in Jan?)
step 3, drop (million dollar question when and from where)

Fascinating to watch market interacting with human psychology--- >>

I guess I can consider this good news... I sold a Bo5 mid-November for a BIN of $4,250, and at the time, it was the 3rd highest they'd reached. After that, price kept falling, leveled off, and now this one goes for a $1 more... they're chipping away at my milestone image but that's OK...

I still have a Bo1 and Bo3, just not motivated to put 'em out there yet...

So what are the regular, unsealed sets in OGP selling for?

I sold a sealed box of 5 FS eligible for $4000 today on the BST in 15 minutes to a known buyer. No additional fees for either of us. Cash and carry and peace of mind knowing that it's going to someone I know. I probably left a little money on the table but a net of $4000 was my goal on my second and last box of 5. MJ

Yep...for my mom's sets (box of 3 and box of 2), I want to get her ~$1000 per set.
I would like to get a MS70 for the "S" to go with my RP 70s, but haven't liked the $500+ pricing so far, so was tempted to send in a box and see if I could get it and then work a deal out with mom.

Yep. $5K is the magic number, although I am seriously considering lugging the box up to Long Beach next month to drop off for grading. That way I wouldn't have to ship the giant box nor pay for the return of the OGP...

I still have 2 sealed boxes of 1 and am just going to sit on them. Not even sure what they're worth anymore.

Yup, my very first case will go at $4900ish image. I may sell two at that price and hold the rest for a bit longer, but to date I haven't sold a single coin (and have bought way too many on the secondary market during the lows of late December) so I need to eventually sell something sooner or later.

I thought FS eligibility had to be submitted before 12/17/2011?

I bought a sealed box of 5 on eBay for $3500 after 12/17. Opened it when I realized that it didn't qualify for FS. Unfortunately, an opened set, disqualifies some of the coins from the 25th Anniv. Set slab label.

No, FS for PCGS is shipped by 12/7/2011.

  • shipped from the Mint on or before 12/7, submitted to PCGS anytime (if sealed) for FS.

That was a fluke or the buyer backed out as the exact same case of 5 has been relisted with an opening bid of $4000. Too bad, as $4750 is getting real close to where I'll sell my first case image

Not me. Sent my 5 sets in for grading but kept most.
My mom has a box of 3 and box of 2 though. Keeping them for her until the price is right!

Raw set sales are getting interesting again. Seems like the floor on ebay is now $700 a set, more selling in the $740 range and some selling BIN at $800 (dont know if I can trust those).

I just threw my last set up on ebay as well.

I'm out. Being rather impatient, I took the road less traveled back in early Nov. and actually opened 2 sealed Bo5. Sold as raw splits with a high per set at $1,186, which included a raw reverse proof at $535.

I then bought out the entire stock of another modern, from the nicest of all dealers, "thecoinvault", and finished that yesterday with a gross pull of 6Kimage I figured you guys would get a chuckle outta that, and according to my wife who is always right, I don't even know what I'm doing...image

I opened one box of 5 for my own personal collection (and for my thieving offspring to sell after I take a dirt nap...but I digress) and have 15 more still sealed in 3 boxes.

I'm tempted to arrange a sale of a box or two for next year at the big Philly show and hand deliver them into somebody's waiting arms...and eliminate all the shipping hassles!
  • I wonder if the BST board is still the best way to sell these sets? I have two unopened 2011 ASE boxes of 5 sets each. Those fees in ebay just kill me.
