yes it is a scam. note, they are not asking for an invoice, but your paypal directly (which makes the payment outside of eBay. )

send the invoice from eBay and only ship to PP verified address. )

scam, I would be very careful and maybe make note in future sales that you will only ship to United States, unless buyer checks with you first that way you can weed out the scammers and still not shut out potential legit buyers.

Did you know that you can block bidders in countries you do not wish to ship to? I personally do not ship to anyone outside of the US and have set up my auctions so that anyone with a registered ebay address outside of the US cannot bid.

Yes, every indication of a scam. Red flag: pastor in Nigeria that wants your paypal ID without paying you first. All he has to do is pay you and then he can see your paypal ID.

The difference between an Orthodox pastor and an unorthodox pastor lies somewhere between eBay and your Pay Pal Identification.

    Scam!!!!

This one is almost certainly a scam.

But, I am surprised at the number of Americans too provincial to ship to the rest of the world. I have shipped items all over the world including the "third world", so far without a single problem. If I didn't accept 3rd world buyers then the 1971 India proof set I bought for less than $10 would not have sold for over $800. I also buy a lot of my coins from Europe so if they took the same approach I would be in deep trouble on my collecting.

Just run everything through ebay/paypal and only ship to verified addresses, I charge more since you need to ship Registered or Express overseas to meet the paypal requirements. And I do have some blocked countries, examples are Nigeria, Sudan etc.

It is very simple. As I said above ebay isn't trying to scam anyone.

But this seller appears to be requesting that you ship to a different address. Then he says he didn't get it. Files a paypal claim and you didn't send it to the address in paypal. You lose.

He isn't trying to steal your paypal account.

It has nothing to do with the country he is from but the wording is very similar to the famous Nigerian banker scam. I've seen the same "ship to a different address" scam pulled in the US by native English speakers.

"Send me your paypal ID" is asking for your email address associated with the account. I get that all the time on legitimate sales. ---Jerry
  • ebay sent an email and the person has an Illinois address....so why wouldnt the buyer have it shipped there and then she could ship it off to Nigeria herself.

On a side note, I visited Australia last year and while there I ordered a guitar from New York and asked the guy if he would ship it to Australia. He did. It was risky for both of us, but the item arrived safe. In your case, it would make sense of this person purchased the item and shipped it to her daughter by herself. Drop shipments are not a good idea on eBay. Incidentally, all of my correspondences were through eBay until such time as I could call him. And the phone works wonders. It's hard to mistake a New York accent. image

There are risks associated with going global, but as previously seen in this thread, there are also great rewards.
This edit is an addendum because eBay has done a marvelous job of protecting us across the globe way better than it used to be. I have to give them that !

Same here (buying too). I've had too many issues with international orders. From having to unexpectedly pay 'duty taxes' to having an item returned from Europe with no explanation whatsoever.

Am I the only one who misread the sentence "...and i will like to send it to my Daughter thats
studying overseas(Nigeria,Lagos)" as "...and I would like to send you my Daughter that's studying overseas(Nigeria,Lagos)" ?

Oh, and definitely a scam. The buyer was going to pay outside of eBay using PayPal, do an item not received dispute, and you'll be s.o.l. since this would not fall under seller's protection.
