How about this open 'em/don't open 'em quandry?!

(this, from an article)

Update: The 1969-S penny discussed here was ultimately graded PCGS MS-64 Red, which is tied with one other specimen for the finest known. It sold at a Heritage auction for $126,500 on January 10, 2008!

Searching pocket change for error coins can be fun and profitable, but searching whole rolls of uncirculated coins can sometimes turn up real treasure! Variety coin expert Ken Potter reports that a Michigan collector, Michael Tremonti, found a BU 1969-S doubled die penny while searching through a 50-coin roll of uncirculated 1969-S cents!

I have a few unopened rolls... two of 1943 steel cents... mostly I cannot resist opening them immediately.. these got put away when I received them (about eight years ago or more) and I forgot about them. Maybe get to them this winter. Cheers, RickO

As long as those are unsearched, authentic bank rolls, I see no reason not to open them!

If you wont open them, then send them to me to do the job image

I'd open up a '69-S cent roll from Michigan just about as soon as I got it.

Finest doubled die obverse is 64RD; there was a 65RD but I think it grew a nasty fingerprint in the holder and might have been downgraded.

I have no idea what the value is of those unopened rolls but I've never been a proponent of leaving OBW undisturbed, especially when there's a potential variety inside. I would add that just because the collector who found the DDO was in Michigan, it doesn't the rolls he opened originated from there too.
