First met BigE at the Portland ANA in 1998. He sold me a coin that he always seemed to regret selling, an AU 1864 IHC. In 2004 he shared why it was so special to him. Here's the story. image

I never told you this but that is "The Chicken Farmer"s Cent". I ran into this old boy at the local Quickie Mart, and he knew I collected coins and said he had a roll of Indian pennies for sale . He invited the wife and I over for lunch-he was one of those types who would not sell anything for any price unless you sat down and BS'd with him for ages! The menu at his farm was home made deer sausage and pickled eggs. He was proud of these "fixins" and gave me my cut(with his pocketknife) of the sausage and I bit a piece of it off and a long piece of hair unwound out of it and I had to pull it out with my fingers. He still would not sell me the roll until I tried his special pickled eggs, they had an unusual red color to them . After I ate one he told me how he made them. He said he went to all the convenience stores around town and always bought the last pickled egg so he could have the old juice and the jar and he mixed all the old juice together to make his own! I finally got the roll, and luckily the wife was driving becuase I had to clean off the passenger side of the car when we got home image That is the story of that indian, and may be the reason she is AU 58 image Thanks for the PM Tim, and when you retire you must come by and visit us on the coast image -------------------------BigE

We talked now and then about it, shared a few laughs over the story and about potential pathogens on the coin and finally in early 2011 it was clear that he wanted it back for sentimental reasons. It went it back to BigE in early 2011. He considered it a good luck charm and from what I can tell by his PM's, he took it with him to treatments for his cancer.

"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world.
