Slab picture request

ranshdowranshdow Posts: 1,442 ✭✭✭✭
So, a potential ebay bidder is asking for a full picture of a slabbed coin I have for sale, presumably to verify it isn't fake, check the number, and verify CAC approval. Fine, fine. I know people sometimes block out cert numbers in images of coins they're selling. What's the security risk or issue, if any, in providing this information on a genuinely slabbed coin that one owns to a potential bidder?

Thanks in advance, team.

The only "risk" I can think of is that he might hijack the coin and put it in his registry. Not terribly likely, and nothing that isn't easily cleared up if need be.

I would not hesitate to provide this information. I actually thought that it was against the rules not to provide this information.

In general, I think you'll get better bidders and higher bids if you include a full slab photo.

I wouldn't bid on a coin off eBay without seeing a photo of the slab.

If you have worries, put the coin into your registry set until it sells. Then release it so the new owner can put it in theirs, if they want.
If you fear the picture may be hijacked, put a watermark across it, not so as to obscure the photo or number, but so that it isn't easy to "borrow" the picture.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Ebay REQUIRES pictures of the entire slab, front and back unless it is post 1980 (I think that's the date)

This was my recollection as well.

Huh, thanks everyone. I posted the coin, sans images of slab, without any complaints from ebay; wonder what the mechanism is for flagging such. Anyway!

You might be fine unless someone reports the listing. I'm thinking it's best to just show the images of the slab.

True...and for Post 1980, I believe a picture of the obverse is the only requirement.

The eBay requirement makes the question moot.

However, you could send pictures via email if you did not want. But a question comes to mind ... would you be willing to buy a coin if, upon your polite request, the seller refused to provide pictures of coin the slab? I bet that would be a red flag for most savvy buyers ... it would be for me (not to necessarily state I am the most savvy of buyers! :Funnyimage.
