  I would imagine if you have a steady enough hand you could put the coin into the solution just enough to cover one side but not touch the other and then rinse it.
  
  I think there was a thread about this before. Not sure if PCGS would grade it or not though.

  i did this just the other day and it is quite easy - dipping NOT cleaning
  
  use your fingers or a pair of coin tongs with rubber grips on the ends

  Why do you wish to dip only one side?? Is it dirt/contamination? If so, acetone will usually remove that without affecting tarnish, and is not considered a dip (one that removes metal). Cheers, RickO

  One way would be to coat one side of the coin with vaseline providing you have a means of removing it afterwards. Also those little spring loaded planchet holders that are commonly used in radiochem labs.

  Well, one side has a round "felt" toned area that is distracting. The grade of the coins are 64 to 65 and worth the trouble, I think.
  
  So, would acetone help with removing the "felt" toned area and still allow the coin to be slabbed in a big 2 holder?

  It can be done but it takes practice. NCS can do conservation on one side if requested.

  Yes. Acetone or MS70 depending upon what you are trying to accomplish. Q-Tip....BUT NO RUBBING OR SCRUBBING with it....just a very very very light application of MS70 via Q-tip and you needs have a good possibility of being met. Not that I would know anything about this....
