Just spoke with his widow and she asked that I let the forum know of Eric's passing. It was in early December. image

In his last few PM's, he said he had lived longer than the doctors had expected.

Another longtime contributor. If I recall his icon was always a Xmas tree, and he passed in December.

Just looked him up and just under 10,000 posts. Imagine how much advice he passed to us. R.I.P.

  • What?! Very sad news. Definitely one of the good guys. I've exchanged a few PMs with him over the last year but never realized his condition was that bad. A sad reminder that life is short. Live it to the fullest. RIP BigE.

Eric told me about his battle a few months ago. Not sure if he was prepared, but he prepared me for this day through the PM function. A very nice man left this place in peace.

My heart goes out to his loved ones, especially.

BigE was a fun guy to deal with and talk to. He also had the only sig line of anyone here I've ever memorized, and over the years, whenever I'd see it, or when it would randomly pop into my mind, it would make me smile: "I'm glad I am a Tree "

    I'll miss him...

I always liked Eric. We had 73 PMs between us. Our last exchange was nearly a year ago. He was taking the Ravens against the Steelers in the Divisional playoffs and wanted to bet with me, of course, just to tweak me. It was very well-played on me. image

Also well-played was the time he bought a raw proof seated dollar at Stack's (old Stack's). It must have been at least five years ago--perhaps someone could find the old thread. He bought the coin sight-unseen from the auction photo for several thousand dollars. Many people, probably including myself, thought he was nuts and some were openly ridiculing him in the thread. He held his ground well and got the last laugh when the coin graded Proof-66 at NGC. He just about "owned" the entire forum for that, but he was very gracious in doing so, probably moreso than we deserved.

Eric came in and out of the forum scene over the last nine plus years. I did not see him around much lately and did not know that he was ill. I never met Eric in person, but I am 100% sure that I would have liked him if I did. I am very sorry to learn of his passing. image

This is another great tragedy for us here on the boards and in the numismatic community.

Unfortunately I never had a PM conversation with him, but I definitely admired his posts image
  • I too was fortunate enough to have had a few PM's with BigE , he had a great sense of humour and will be missed. image

I feel the same. He taught me how to use the "search function." A random act of kindness that required his special level of both, patience and humor.

God Bless Eric and his family. Never met him, but knew him only through this venue. So sad, 2011 was a truly costly year for our forums.

Although I never met Eric, we had many conversations in threads and through PMs. Great guy, he fought the good fight against very tough health issues in his final years.

My sincere condolences to his loved ones, of which I'm sure he had many. We can't begin to fathom the depth of your loss, we here will greatly miss BigE. Rest in peace
