Happy New year... I just found $285.50!

mrpaseomrpaseo Posts: 4,753 ✭✭✭
Every day I put my pocket change in a jar, on DEC 31 I roll it up to see what kind of bonus I get... This year I have $271 in clad, $8.50 in zink cents and $6.00 in copper cents for a total of $285.50.

I do not turn in the copper cents to the bank. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this "Found" money yet... Any suggestions?

Ray

PS. Happy New year to all.

Every year I save up my change and cash it in when I go to Vegas. I also made a nice find recently, was digging through what I thought was a box of junk world coins and turns out several of them had varying silver content when I looked them up!

I dunno. It's fun to mentally spend $285.50. I could think of a lot of things to spend that on. What floats your boat?

Thing is, it was my own box I cherrypicked! Had that box in another box of randomness, got it from and uncle years ago. Was reorganizing my collection and recognized that silver "chink" on a Medio Balboa and decided the whole box was worth a closer look. Found about 30 coins with silver including about 10 Canadian Quarters and dimes from the silver era.

I'm not a knee jerk type of buyer and I don't need to spend money when I have it... That said, I will not cash in the change until I know what I want. This will force me to think about the purchase due to the time it will take to turn the coins in image Maybe I'll put it towards a ROTH IRA image

  • I've been doing the same for years and years. One year I realized I couldn't remember what I spent it on the prior year. So I opened a savings account. Now after scanning for interesting coins and pulling out anything cool or anything I'm hoarding I roll up the rest and deposit it into the savings account. No other money ever goes into the account so I know it is all change and any interest on that change and nothing else.

I just checked and my savings account is up to $797! I must roll up what change I have and break the $800 mark! image

Don`t roll the jar at the end of the year.
Ebay it as unsearched hoard from the entire last year.

How about some silver or gold?

I spent my change jar in June on a new radio and speakers for my jeep. Got about $110+ in there since. Last year I put a set of tires on my truck with the change from a few years. Always a nice savings bonus for us cash folks!

Wow! It just so happens that is the exact amount in the same denomination that I lost in pocket change!! Please PM me for details on how to return it to me. image
