<< <i>I'd like my coin holders to read, "Special First Early Strike Release" and to also have a star, two plusses, and three stickers (one "bean", one smiley face, and one Spider-Man) >>
I was in agreement until you said "Spider-Man". I wanted this sticker (below) on my slabs:

Are you calling the folks ATS "bozos"?
Actually, I was hoping to read a reaction over there, but they are too busy catering to a noowbie who is just out of forum jail and peppering everyone with inane threads and comments.

I just had a flashback where I was perusing a B&M bid-board and heard "Is the new Beckett's in?"

It is really just another name for early releases so nobody who really collects them will have much comment. Just another opportunity for people who don't collect moderns to throw stones. --jerry

IMO, "First Release" and similar designations are about money, not coins.
<< <i>Just another gimmick for the label collectors. >>
They aren't the only ones.

I'm not sure whay anyone would be more disappointed with NGC than any other top tier TPG, they all make up different labels to sell to collectors. At least the "early release" doesn't incorrectly imply that it is some special "first strike" (which they are not).

lol... oh wait I mean
FWIW, I think Early Releases is the least ridiculous of these special labels.

Baley, I am quite disappointed with your post, as you did not directly address what additional designations you would like to see on the reverse of the coin holders.
First Releases makes much more sense to me. A step in the right direction.

corporate fourth party advertising could appear? Srsly. Mickey D golden arches in the lower left hand corner on gold coins? Silver Mercedes logo on high end silver coins? Corporations sponsor stadiums and plenty of money out there for this type of thing.
Just throwing it out there. I wouldn't be surprised.
I agree with Mr. Floyd. After all, they do owe them one.
When gold and silver move together, it signals the coming end of fiat money.
<< <i>It could be that they felt the need to trademark another label in case PCGS got the idea to change the First Strike name to something more indicative of a first release. >>
Although I'm a strictly PCGS fan, I agree that FIRST STRIKE on PCGS holders is WRONG. They should change that before someone outs them on using that term. JMHO. Steve

At least that makes sense. On the face if it, it's nuts.

If you manage to score 2011-S coins with the Boardwalk and Park Place labels you score a big prize.

I knew I liked that dirty gold man.

<< <i>Legally (and technically) speaking, but Early Releases is more accurate then First Strike.... >>
I though I had posted the same thing yesterday but it seemed to of went POOF!
<< <i>Legally (and technically) speaking, but Early Releases is more accurate then First Strike...which is a completely fraudulent term without any basis in fact. >>
PCGS has defined First Strike, and what they are labeling First Strike, meets their definition. Others may define it differently, and PCGS First Strike coins may or may not meet someone else's definition.
Of course, most of this is silly to me, but some people obviously do care.
When gold and silver move together, it signals the coming end of fiat money.
Yes...and that definition would either make a group of Philadelphia lawyers very proud...or completely horrified...depending on which side of the table they sat. What makes it complete bull is the fact that a commonly used term in coin collecting has been grotesquely twisted to mean something completely different. "First Shipped" or "First Received" would be truthful...anything else is a sham.
And as also noted, even if it did mean what it said, which would you rather own...a first struck coin from a worn pair of dies or a matte proof from brand new dies. Naked marketing...ya gotta love/hate it!

That's because I summed it up quite nicely. Not that I really give a crud about it, it just becomes too painful reading others aimless dribble.......that goes on and on and on............

<< <i>I wonder how many buyers on the secondary market are mislead (through their own ignorance) by what the label says. >>
Based on the content of previous threads, there are people on these boards who are/were confused.
The First Strike label is certainly deceptive to the uninformed. Maybe there should be a disclaimer on the back?

I don't believe an uninformed/unknowledgeable collector who does not have a discerning eye for crisp EDS strikes, who relies too heavily on what a grading company thinks, is entitled to have such coins.

They should refocus on guaranteeing variety attributions and stop with the label BS.
