My daughter is quitting her coin collection

I'm keeping her elongated cent collection for later. Each coin was made by her when she was in the tourist spot and she always used the official elongating machine. I showed her to use the finest cent at hand when elongating.

She has a the proverbial coffee can of junk. I dragged her to shows and she collected a bunch of give aways. I kinda like the following:

If she reminisces and I happen to be around I can produce the collection - that should be good for some memories. I'll show my wife where the stash is in case I'm not around...

Well maybe if you'd buy her a couple nice MS66 Saints or AU Bust Dollars her interest in coins will be renewed?

Aha.. reaching the age of 'other interests'.... happens to most kids.... she may be back. Neat collection of elongated cents though.. I have a few from places I visited.... Cheers, RickO

All three of my daughters have collected coins at one time or another. The 17 yr old has given up and moved onto other things. The 15 yr old still does very occasionally. The 7 yr old has coins in her brain. Even when she was a baby she loved them, playing with them, stacking them, pilfering mine. She may well be the only one that cointinues her collecting. She absolutely loves all forms of money.

She might get back into them, even many of the hardcore collectors take a break now and again.

My daughter is 4 years old and seems to be taking a keen interest in them. She is always asking me what I am doing and if she can help or look at some. I personally won't be pushing my daughter to coin collecting but if she chooses to, I will be more then happy to help and the likelihood is she will inherit most of my collection to sell or keep and pass down.

unless there is a lot of money there, that is needed, that collection would be something to hold on to...

Many memories for later years, or something for the Grandkids that will come...

tell her you can sell it for her,,,, buy it,, and put it away for that future date...

One of the best investments you will ever make.

I quit form my late teens till my late twenties. Just as well I didn't have much money then anyway

She'll really appreciate you keeping the elongated set for her, although I'd consider more archival storage than what they're in now. It will jog her memory as to all the places she's been. My older daughter has a hat with a bunch of souvenir pins stuck to it -- probably about 60 or 70. It was a very cool thing to have started doing.

Make sure you use pre '82 cents in the cent rollers. Now you can revisit all your vacation spots.

Most youngsters will go through a period where they will lose interest in collecting coins. This is a good time to let her be and not have dad try to cram the coin collector habit back into his child. If she's meant to be a coin collector then she will find her way back to coins in the future by herself. If she doesn't then coin collecting was never a true interest for her.

Believe it or not, kids' attitudes change over time. What and who they liked when they were younger don't stay the same year after year. The faster parents understand that the better.

Give her the collection back when her kids (your grandkids) are her age when she started the collection. Everything grandpa says at that age carries much more conviction than whatever Mom or Dad can say :-)
