Haha i wish that were true, their have been many that have slipped through my hands, for one reason or another.
I sold a bunch of them a while back to focus on a Peace Date/Mint set, which ultimately proved to be a dismal mistake.
Would love to see other toners!

Yes, there are a lot of questionable Peace Toners out there, many of them in good slabs too, unfortunately. I would like to think I have a pretty good eye for what's AT and what's not, regardless of whether they are MA or not.

There are lots of collectors (and dealers) who thought (or still think) the same thing. I suspect they are overestimating their ability, which is probably as much of a statement as to the skill of those who intend to deceive as it is a comment on collector/dealer self-evaluation.

RWB has made some statements and stated some scientific facts about the storage of Peace dollars and the effect on toning vs that of morgans that I think supercedes all the hunches with no facts people throw around. I have personally decided that any coin that follows the Sunnywood prgression schemes, AT WORST is MA and most likely NT.

Unfortunately, the market (and PCGS) seem to disagree, and it is worth noting the same lack of scientific evidence is a characteristic of your argument as well. You are simply deducing innocence without sufficient evidence while those on the other argument deduce guilt.
Where's the truth? I'd wager somewhere in the middle, and we will likely never know for sure -- but my own gut says HRH and his experience trumps those with a fraction thereof and we are wise to judge these toned coins with a jaundiced eye...and no conspiracy theory is necessary; only a measured and logical approach which takes into account imperfect information and subjective judgments.

I dont think the market disagrees at all. When these toned dollars go up for sale they see strong money. Unfortuantely you do not see the same number of MS66 and 67s with toning that you do morgans so they never really reach those lofty type of numbers. I lost out on my avatar coin at auction to Rick Tomaska who then sold it to me 50% higher. Big name collectors and dealers and even more importantly, whom you completely ignored my reference to above, book writers on the subject tend to disagree with HRH's very blanket statement, whom he himself has gone back on. So if what he saw in the 70s made him make the blanket statement, was so easily redacted by that ONE peace dollar which many have argued similar coins to be AT, then how sturdy is that opiopnated blanket statement? Not very IMO.
People tend to so easily argue that you cannot judge a coin by pics alone when issues of NGC *s come out but are so quick to deterimune Peace dollars are AT by those same pics. Somewhat hypocrytical.

I can see your point though... Have no idea where that 23 had been other then it may have been out of a mint bag...In hand it`s exactly what you would expect from mint bag toning...Perhaps somehow it ended up in a bag of Morgans?
