My grandmother's silver dollars - Question

ElcontadorElcontador Posts: 7,740 ✭✭✭✭✭
My grandmother kept $80 face in gold coins and about fifty or sixty silver dollars when the Feds called in the gold coinage in 1933. My father knew I collected coins as a kid, and showed them to me when I was about fourteen. Dad is gone, so these belong to my sister, brother and I.

I suggested keeping the gold coins as family heirlooms. However, while I'd like to sell the silver dollars, first, I'd like someone to look them over to see if there are any valuable error coins, so more money can be distributed to the three of us.

I will probably be coming to the next Long Beach show. To whom do you think I should show these coins, and what should I pay such individual for his time to look them over? Also, could I get a decent price for generic circulated silver dollars there, and if so, from whom?

There are no rare dates re either the gold or the silver dollars.

Errors ought to be pretty obvious. If you mean Varieties you can do your own homework
    at vamworld.com.

Then once you have done your investigation into these dollars, put them up on the BST and
avoid all the auction/Ebay fees. A couple of good pics would be all that is needed and just
a bit of a description on problems or such. Whatever, do not clean them. I know you said
you collect but don't let the siblings get their hands on them!

Talk to Logan McKechnie at VAMsandMore. He sets up next to the NGC submission table. He'll be able to help you with everything. He also has a website if you want to contact him ahead of time.
    When in doubt, don't.

Thanks Greg! However, I moved out of SoCal this summer and am unlikely to attend another Long Beach show. Logan is a close and very trusted friend.
