OBW Wheat Cent Roll End Toners

rmpsrpmsrmpsrpms Posts: 1,976 ✭✭✭✭✭
Does anyone specialize in these? I'm a Lincoln Cent Collector, and I collect Lincoln Toners, but I've never developed in interest in roll end coins. I usually put them aside in my "cull" box figuring I'll go through them someday but for some reason I specifically put aside the roll end coins from 14 1956-D Lincoln Cent rolls I searched. Here are two example coins (obv and rev of each) and an overall image of the 28 roll end coins. All but one of the rolls was Heads-Tails, and that one was Heads-Heads so 15 Heads and 13 Tails in the group. Would there be interest on the BST for these? Maybe a giveaway? Sounds like a poll...

I'll give you my opinion if you tell me how many and what RPMs you found in the rolls. image

    Well...

These 14 rolls were very lucrative. I suppose that's why I put the end coins aside. They averaged 2 RPM #1 in each roll, all 65's or better, which is the most I ever found in any group of rolls. They were purchased as a lot off eBay, so this tells you there really are unsearched, original OBW rolls available. I usually won't buy single OBW roll lots since the likelihood they are messed with is pretty high, but I take a very close look at any groups of rolls as I've found them to have better probability of being truly original.

Now, if you're hoping some of these end toners are RPM #1 that I overlooked, you are probably out of luck. But come to think of it I will check one last time...

Nice haul - did any of the RPM#1s have the BIE die break?

As for the end roll toners, I see a few that might be worth a grading fee, but really those are better suited for an album. Unless you're building the set for yourself, I'd let someone else take the chance on slabbing them. I don't think you're looking at a fortune either way, especially if you want to try and turn a profit after paying the certification fees.

I think you'll get some interest on the BST. These pieces look nice.

OK, more than 2:1 favors selling them so off to the BST they go. Let's see if there is any interest at $1 each. Thanks all...Ray
