Looking at the price guide @ $2950 I'd say you did well, but what do I know?

For most modern issues, the Price Guide is grossly inflated. I wouldn't rely on it or would take approximately 70-80% of it.

You won't really know how you did until you sell. The primary factor in your results will be the
spot price of gold. The premium for PR70 bullion coins is unlikely to increase, IMO...

I don't know...never dabbled in US moderns before...its US legal tender.

Does legal tender bullion mean anything?

I will agree with the term MOST but others are now under valued, causing a coin that once sold for 800 when the price guide said 1500, they changed it to 800 and now the coin sells for 400. I have been burnt with this, and wonder when us newbies go by this guide to buy, than all of a sudden they wack in half but they don't realize they really cut the price from 1500 to now 400 because No one pays the actual price in the guide. Lessons learned.............. Congrats on your purchases and good luck Enjoy tom

I'd say forget about the price if you can and just stare at the thing. That $50 gold is stunning! And you got my favorite design (For a lot of folks) for the platinum, too. The black mirrored field of the plat reverse with the moon makes it look like night.

They are cool coins and nobody can really disagree with that and anybody on this board would love to own those. As for rarity, the 70 game and value vs price paid I can only say that it only matters if you care about those issues. .

Assuming the coins are all there you stole them. Is that smudge on the reverse of the $100 on the holder? --Jerry

I collect modern coins exclusively and while those are nice dates to have perfect pcgs 70 examples of I think you over-payed for coins with very little upside. Simply put, there are very few 1oz AGE or APE collectors. You're much better off buying fractional burnished gold and platinum as the premiums are still fairly low (other than the '08W$10 AGE) and they're truly rarities. Only time will tell how you did, but in my small circle of modern collecting friends I don't know anyone who has the pockets for perfect 70 sets of $50 AGEs or $100 APEs. IMO the 2011W $50 AGE is a *much* better buy for the money...

Take a look through the last few months of post in Eric Jordan's monster modern thread whenever you have the time. There's a lot of great info there to be sure. If you haven't purchased his book, than you should buy it immediately even if you don't plan on buying more moderns. The book is a great read and well worth the $15.

I can see owning these as an interesting side road in numismatics but could never enjoy a collection based on coins like that.

yes on the holder.....are these as collectables as the 2011 ASE anniversary sets?

    If not why not?

    Thanks...
