A fun moment in the creation of a YN
My oldest is 7 years old. I have been "grooming" him for a couple of years for coins with little success. Recently, I dug out an old 20th century type set Whitman folder and gave it to him. We sat down and were easily able to fill many of the holes with the stuff I had given him already plus extra things I had in a folder. He has taken a liking to the steel cents for some reason and asked me to take him to the local B&M to look for more! I was thrilled and my wife just rolled her eyes!!!

PS - I will give all the steel cents you want - I got rolls of them!

I figure if you give them a coin and they don't eat it and can bring it out upon request 5 days later, then they aren't to young.
<< <i>I agree that 7 is young. He hasnt lost any of the stuff I have given him, yet. It never hurts to prod him along the way either! >>
I disagree. My daughter is six and she is already an expert at the art of preservation. I gave her a proof 1961 quarter last year, raw, and last month she shows it to me (I have no idea where she kept it, except perhaps somewhere in one of her stash boxes) and it still looks perfect.

I was 7 when we started this set using my allowance with a little help from dad and gramp
Now that girls don't seem as bad as once thought, some funds go to that endeavor instead of coins. But the set linked in my sig line has help keep the interest going.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
