ALL 25th Anniversary sealed sets should get FS - Petition.
Who's with me ?
PCGS should declare ALL - 2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Sets - First Strike, if they come in a sealed box, no matter what the ship date.
They've done this for other coins.
I mean, a same day, less then 24hr sellout, and the people who, after trying ALL day long to get a set, finally get a set and because of that luck/bad luck, they are not eligible for FS, just because their order when through at 6:15PM or later instead of 6:15PM or earlier.
C'mon Man.

When does it matter if we agree to all call something by a misleading name and why?

......Absolutely..............these newbe Occupiers have gotta go........!!!!!!!
As I understand it, the only time ALL the coins are "First Strike" qualified is when the Mint ships out ALL the coins in the first 30 days. Just as the Mint did with the 2009 $100 Proof Platinum coin.
Here, the Mint clearly did NOT ship all the coins in the first 30 days. And, as much as I would like the boxes I am getting in next week to be "First Strike" coins, they simply do not meet the established definition from PCGS on "First Strike". It's as simple as that ... isn't it?

<< <i>Why would anyone want PCGS to violate the clear rules they established for their "First Strike" definition?

It's the opinion of some collectors that they already violated their First Strike definition by allowing the FS designation on the bullion, proof and 2011-W burnished coins in the 25th anniversary sets since those coins were already released earlier in the year and their FS deadlines had already passed.
But apparently, the definiton was interpreted such that the coins being reissued in a set that was sold later in the year somehow made them new coins subject to a new FS deadline...

<< <i>illini420 ... PCGS did exactly what they did in 2006 with the 20th anniv sets. They are showing a 25th Anniv Set FS label just as in 2006 with showing the 20th Anniv set label (and having previously released coins earlier in 2006). Why was no one complaining in 2006?

I didn't join until 2008
But more seriously, I don't know why those that go for the FS designation didn't raise the issue back then... maybe some did? In any event, bending the clearly defined FS definition solely because they did so in the past isn't the best reason to do so again.

<< <i>I know this would cause a nightmare, but have the first thousand (or whatever) customers of any issue have the option of having orders shipped directly to the TPG of their choice. Those could be mint-designated first strikes which might be meaningful, and you wouldn't have to worry about whether the UPS guy ripped your box. >>
shorecoll....I have thought of that scenario and suggested it a while ago..but I'm glad that it would not be possible. We have just witnessed the fiasco of the 25th Anniversary sets where big orders and mint "glitches" added to a dilemma of collectors waiting on-line for hours and hours to place an order.I believe a fairer way in a situation such as this is to have a window of time to order and then a lottery of which multiple and exreme multiples are discarded and then and only then can a release date be issued.
First strike is another issue.......
I wouldnt want those marked FS

<< <i>Agree as well, as long as the box is sealed. All sets should be shipped this week anyway!?! >>
boxes dont even have to be sealed within the 30 day mark
They have stated the rules and everyone can read them.
It is what it is and people always seem to try to change things to fit their own desires.
Any suggestion that the USMint get involved, in any way/form, in shipping straight to a TPGS, is one of the worst suggestions I could imagine for a collector/the hobby.
People need to get the greed out of their eyes and move forward and focus. Even flippers are fine...it's the pure greed of some that is sickening. That's all the suggestion to send straight to a TPGS could be born of.....greed.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I think most buyers getting a set will assume just that anyways so who cares what the holder says?
Buying top quality Seated Dimes in Gem BU and Proof.
Buying great coins - monster eye appeal only.
Who remembers why?
I'll save you the trouble of figuring it out.
The reason was because the ONLY coins that would have been eligible would have been the ones that Apmex pre sold.
Or Maybe.. First Hundred Thousand Struck.
People please realize that the people that received or were shipped their coins after the 7th were on back order status. In other words be happy that you received them, with or without the FS availability label. A back order can go on for months after the initial release as returns and such have the potential to draw out the process. If PCGS allowed First Strike labels at any time, there would be absolutely no incentive to purchase them. Personally the whole exclusiveness of the 30 day window is the only reason I sent mine in, and if they changed that well... I would be taking that up with PCGS and my credit card company.

<< <i>I think anyone willing to pay $18 extra for a coin should be able to get any two words printed on their labels
<< <i>I have a better idea- Let's petition PCGS to get rid of the deceptive First Strike designation altogether. Give me one- just one MEANINGFUL area it differentiates the FS coin in as being more desirable than the non FS coin and I'll sign your petition to keep it. And when a coin was shipped is absolutely NOT linked to the quality of the coin(s) in any way, shape or form. FS is shameful. >>
a more meaningfull description should be considered!
PCGS is not to blame. they are merely players in this game, providing what customers will pay for.
if no one paid for it, i'd venture a guess that it would cease.
its all the hype surrounding something 'new' and being the first to own one.
it's the me-first/gimme-gimme NOW!!! crowd that are into such gimicks...

I don't care about a trophy. I don't even care about getting respect from 95% of those who claim to have high quality registry sets.

<< <i>Bochi, my comment was based on another thread where someone saw trays inside the mint labeled first strike...the only way to prove a "chain of evidence" that those coins are the exact same coins would be to have those trays (or coins from them) sent directly to a TPG, else once the package is open there is no way to know. >>
I'm certain the US Mint could come up with a NICE sealed holder and inspect them with far superior diligence and why not, it's their product!
