Why was YOUR 25th Anniversary Order Cancelled?

Two weeks ago, I got an email advising my single order for the 5th of five sets was cancelled. When I called the Mint to check into this, I had to press to speak to a supervisor, because the initial rep I spoke with ws of no help whatsoever, stubbornly refusing to give me any explanation that made sense.

Once I got to a supervisor, I was told my order was cancelled because I'd "exceeded the HH limit of 5 sets" - which did not make any sense at all, because the order for the set they cancelled was the FIFTH of the five we were permitted to order.

The supervisor had no other excuse, checked my prior orders, confirmed I was correct, and their reasoning was wrong, and yet, she said she could do nothing, suggesting "there must be some other reason", without offering any sense of what that might be...

I wonder how many others went this far, or farther, and what moronic excuse you were given that YOUR order was cancelled? image

Yes, as lame as it is, it sounds like at least you got 4 of them - more than many others. I think we all just have to live with what happened and hope that the improvements they have promised arrive soon enough, and are sufficient.

My experiences with that entity have been similar to that of my relationships with women. I can never understand either, but I like what they got. image

... then I have to PAY twice as much for it from some man who only cared to brag that he got her "first".
Then it's off for branding at the justice of the piece. (FS)

voila... now you know how the keebler elves were born.

There are number of Letters the Editor in the December 12 edition of Coin World. The big complaint is that dealers pay their friends and costomers to order five sets each so that they can corner the market. With the 20th anniversary gold some years ago, I knew one dealer who reserved over 200 sets that way. Since he made over $1,000 a set, needless to say he did quite well.

I think that the limit should be one set per order if the mintage is going to limited. Every citizen who wants a set of coins should allowed to buy them from the mint. Dealers will argue that that messes up the market. One dealer, whom I know claimed that the 1999 silver Proof set prices were high because dealers could not control the market. He claimed that because dealers had to buy the sets from collectors the bids were driven up. Go ahead and comment on this logic if you will.

Still I'm for everyone who wants a set to be treated fairly, and right now the current system is not fair.

That's just perfect. And I'm sure she was being genuine.

Imagine if your business ran like this? "We saved one for you but we just can't find it. Drat" Or, "I see you're a great customer but we can't do business now. Sorry, I can't tell you why."

In point of fact, they told me as much... and I certainly can't complain too much, for as someone above noted, I did get 4 of the 5...

Still, they were attempting to appease me for a mistake they made, and their attitude is, "too bad, but we can't correct it"...

It wasn't so much the loss of the 5th set as it was the incompetent attitude, and the fact there seemed no accountability.

In view of the fact that you got four sets, I don't think that you have too much of reason to complain. Imagine if you wanted one set, was able to finnally get through, only to get notice that you can't have that one.

This happened to me in 2006 with the 20th anniversary sets: Had a box of 5 that had been shipped from the mint and my credit card had been charged. After about 2 weeks the coins had not shown up,I called the mint and they said that the coins had somehow been returned to them and redelivered to someone else. At that time a box of 5 were selling for $3000. I got my $500 refunded. Sorry if this is slightly off topic.image

It may very well be that the first person on the phone truly did not know why the sets were cancelled and had to give you a most likely scenario. This may have applied even farther up the chain.
