This coin could be from 1941, hard to tell with the date ground off. My grandfather prepared this on his troop transport and then carried this walking liberty half through his time in the Pacific.
the coin shows some salt water damage and went through some rather harrowing experiences. I honestly do not know if I could have done the things
that my Grandfathers generation did. I think I am too soft thanks to the wonderful life and country that previous generations sacrifices have allowed.

To all the men and women who served during WWII . Thanks for your service. My grandfather was with the 41st Jungleers in the Phillippines and then was one of the 1st to land after on the Japans mainland after the Abomb was dropped. He had a hard life after that. Cancer was all threw his body. I wish I could connect with some of his fellow soliders but have not had any luck finding anyone from the 41st.

Bless you all and THANKS for your service to this country

The survivors are gettting up there in age. If a few short years the first hand accounts will fade away into history.

I love the coin fishteeth...it doesn't need to be able to talk, it speaks on its own.

My grandfather was on the Nevada during the attack. He was a fuse setter so his back was facing the action. One of his good buddies died just a few feet from him. He latter served on the submarine, USS Gunnel, patrolling the Japanese Pacific. I'm blessed he's still with us.

I visited Pearl Harbor the in 2009. I just can't believe the Japanese had the audacity to attack us on our home soil.

I think people would be surprised at just how much they could be capable of if the situation demanded it.

A very somber day. I was discussing it with my Doctor (had a short visit yesterday, nothing important) and he was saying how sad it is that so many today attach no significance to the day. Little is taught in schools now. My comment was that in seventy years, 9/11 will be the same way. Already kids ten years or younger do not have an awareness of that disaster. Very sad that American history is no longer taught as it was years ago. Cheers, RickO

and some people have even decided to call criminal attacks/acts of terrorism a "disaster" -- making the acts of war akin to a flood, hurricane, or other "act of God"

    People ARE the Animals.

we are a horrible species that kills itself.

we should all learn from the Animals, and peacefully share the planet.

I thought about this day long and hard yesterday. It was a terrible day with many terrible events that followed.
