BTW - I like the obverse of this coin so don't bid against me >>
I just asked the seller if this was cracked out of a genuine holder because of the words "XF details" on the flip. Stay tuned. >>
He answered me back and said he inherited this fom his father-in-law,who was a veteranarian. It was a pawn shop that x-ray'd the coin and said it was a genuine coin. Obviously he had no clue about my meaning of the word "genuine". Anyone else can ask the question why nobody offered him any money for the coin, because he also said that he took it to other coin shops as well.
Because to Err is Human. I specialize in Errors, Minting, Counterfeit Detection & Grading. Computer-aided grading, counterfeit detection, recognition and imaging.
The only think you may be able to tell is if it's hollowed and filled with something. Other than that, you'd be outta luck looking at an x-rayed coin trying to determine if it's genuine or not. Here's a Washington Quarter I shot at my office several years back.

That helped. I almost bid a dollar until I saw the $10.00 shipping!
<< <i>A specific gravity test would be of help and is done by professionals and the TPG's as a tool to determine authenticity. An Xray NOT!
I agree, and Medicare won't pay for it, either.

I think the thickness would be too great to get any reasonable diffraction on the CCD plate. Also I'm not sure how to exactly interpret XRD of a coin.

Medicare is better off spending our money on garbage cans full of wheat cents and a red Ferrari
<< <i>Is photo cropping a lost art on eBay? I have a 23" screen and can barely see the coin. >>

Maybe there was a child inside the coin...!!....
