Are Coins "AGELESS"? Think about it.......

Are Coins Ageless? .....a question that is difficult to answer. When you look at a bust dime, MS64, is AGE really coming into your mind here, or is it just condition, detail, quality, rarity.....When you find a nice 1961 lincoln cent in change...is it the sheer weight of a half century passage of time...probably most of YOUR lifetime....is that what you think about? When you get a new issue delivered from the mint, do you think > Wow this is only a month old?

yet your children, change from giddy thought to a grey haired old fart in the same span of time as the nice 1956 BU roosevelt dime in your album. and, thats a modern, so to speak.

are coins ageless?

they are not ageLESS, they just age at a slower pace......you are attempting to assign a human life-span (70 to 80 years) to a coin and it is just on a different scale....as you point out, a fifty year old coin is still relatively modern to most collectors

put differently, the New Testament is only 'new' when compared to the Old Testament...think about it

Sometimes I look at coins, especially well worn ones, and think of 'where that coin has been' and who has held it over the decades.
For me, ancient coins are the amazing windows to the distant past.

I gave a Widow's Mite to my son, niece, and nephew..........what they marvelled about was that these coins were used 2000 years ago, during the time of Jesus.

    ......I collect old stuff......

I have a jewelry box that I got one Christmas back in the early '60's. In one of the compartments, I have a 1959-P and (3) 1960-P Lincolns that I bought at the local coin shop in 1965 for "investment purposes". They've stayed in the same felt lined compartment and are still a nice amber Unc color after all these years.

No, they're aged. Either to perfection or to basal state.
This is a great question, too.

Practice makes perfect & nobody is perfect. So, practice being nobody and be perfect !

    Very good comparison.

It is all relative... even stone is not ageless, as it becomes weathered with the elements. Metal is often less durable.. zinc coins for example. Nothing is ageless... time wears all down.... Cheers, RickO
