Some more raw coins, including a nice 1955 nickel and 1969 quarter

These were some more recent coin show purchases, all raw. I'm thinking the '55 nickel and the '69 quarter have a shot at MS-66. In all my searching, this is the best '55-P example I've run across. Not FS by any means, but it has a decent strike and doesn't look like a lifeless piece of metal like most 55-P's.

The '38-D is nice but these come nice.

The '69 quarter is nice but the reverse might keep it out of a 66 holder.

If it were mine I'd stabilize it in acetone just to be on the safe side. That might be caused
by a light film of PVC from the mint set packaging.

That is a truly outstanding 55 nickel and fully deserving of a top grade unless the contrast of the photo is hiding something. Congrats on the find!

Very nice 69 Quarter with a reasonable shot at MS66. Both Nickles are beautiful!

What does the Analyst say about this date?

Most of this issue is of "garbage" quality. Expect dark colored, poorly struck, nicked and marked coins.
Very rare as a full strike, brilliant white coin. Although a common roll coin, in the past often promoted
    as rare.

The Teletrade archives will show what 1955 garbage looks like!

But the OP coin has class! It appears lustrous, colorful and nicely struck with the bare minimum of marks. A high quality coin with more steps would need to resemble this coin. Over-used/worn working dies have aided many coins to be certified as having full steps. Those coins would fall under the term, garbage.

Thanks for your input Leo. I also looked over the archives and maybe all but one looked drecky. I do think my example is way more attractive and the subtle toning doesn't hurt. I figure it can't hurt to get it graded, getting a 66 would be a nice return on $3.

That one coin you saw in TT is in my set. And I wasn't lucky to find it because I do spend a great deal of time searching the web for coins. Check your PMs, I have a coin you might consider.
