Quarterly Special 10/1-12/31 Announced

messydeskmessydesk Posts: 20,784 ✭✭✭✭✭
One modern graded free when you pay for 4. Any takers? I wonder if the ASE 25th anniversary set coming out this month has anything to do with the special.

Possibly but I don;t really think so.

The margins are simply being shaved as its more cost effective to offer 4/1 than it is 3/1 or 2/1.

I just sent in 8 proof Frankies. Dropped them in the mail 20 minutes ago. Oh well it's only $14 anyway.

I don't have five moderns to submit. I haven't been able to participate since the format changed to require 3-5 coins to be submitted, whereas I sent in two CC Quarterly Specials last year (when only one coin was required). I miss being able to play!

If you look at the Statistics.... MODERNS are running about 4 days ahead of schedule and economy stuff is running about 3 days behind schedule and regular is about 2 days behind schedule. Instead of reallocating resources they are going to try and make the modern folk busier but not help the other department maybe? Just what it seems like to me. I'm probably wrong though.

I agree. They should reallocate resources so that they are not so behind with economy and regular since they are so far ahead with moderns.

Not for me, either. They seem to have gone away from a free grade to a "buy X, get one free", which may make more sense for some (but not for others).

Nice gesture, but the fixing the submit quantity at 5 coins could be made much better for us folks by having a 4 coin paid minimum, and allowing 1 coin for free. After paying the $8 order fee and the $30 return shipping, its cheaper on a per coin basis to send in 8 or more. Using the special, I calculate 5 coins would cost $94, or $18.80 each. Not using the special on 8 coins would cost $147, or $18.38 each.

Now, having one coin for free tacked on to the special would be a much nicer, and likely much more utilized special.

    I agree.

At least with the past quarterly freebies, it enabled folks to get outside their normal collecting habits and perhaps consider submitting something different than what they would normally submit.

This was a freebie for 1st Qtr 2008 which is definitely outside my comfort zone for submissions but since it was free, I figured what the heck.

I agree.....would have been cool, and likely more profitable to PCGS to solicit submissions, to have made it "1 free when submitting 4 OR MORE".....

Yep, the only way this is a "special" is if you have exactly 5 coins to submit and that is it. Otherwise, it's better to not use it. Oh well.

I just called Alisha at PCGS Customer Service. I asked if Modern foreign gold was included in the CC Quarterly Special "submit five, get one free". It is.

I then asked if I could send in, say twenty Modern foreign gold coins, and get the one free. She said "Yes".

Well, then we got conflicting information. World coins are OK. Sending more than five is not, at least according to Trista King.

I have ten modern world coins to submit, but cannot use the special because it would end up costing me MORE.

Today I called PCGS again, I was told we CANNOT send in more than five coins for the quarterly special. Go figure.

Hold the door. I've been out of action for a bit, well 2 bits, and a search wasn't digging up any truffles for me.. SO Quarterly Specials, all quarters regardless of the coin designated, require 4 paid submissions to get the 1 freebie? Or is that just for this current QS? Last time I had a membership the QS was normally "Any 1 lincoln, pay S&H and send it in" sort of thing without paid minimums, etc.

that is the way it has been running for the past year, unfortunately... and you must have exactly 4 paid submissions to get the 1 free. If you have 6 coins, you CAN'T pay for 5 and get the 1 free!!!!! image

Does this special work for single sets only? I was told by customer service that I would have to fill out a separate form for each set for a 5 set sealed box. Here are the reply I got back from customer service.

<<For our quarterly grading special, you are allowed to take advantage of it once per quarter, so you could use it for one of your sets. However, in order to take advantage of it, you would have to put one set on a submission form and the other sets on another submission form. Each submission requires its own shipping charges, so the shipping charges would be more than what you would be saving using the special.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.>>

Am I understanding this correctly? Please advise.

That sounds similar to what I was told, unfortunately.

The special is for "one free when you pay for four," and exactly four only.

Apparently it is NOT a "one free when you pay for twenty-four."
