Could one print a address label on a sheet of plain paper and tape the edges over the mint shipping label and just go to the post office to ship and insure? Just trying to figure a easy way for those that bought for others to ship and still have the unopened box for them to submit.

I would at least wrap and tape it in brown paper.

You could just print a new label from USPS, or UPS and put it over the original.

I just peeled off all the UPS labels. Came off easy as pie. Now I just have a non-descript brown box that I will reinforce w/ some tape and take down to USPS.

<< <i>I guess we need some brown wrapping paper and a lot of tape to send these off. >>

you can still go priority in a larger box. i always, most always use reinforced gummed brown tape anyway. if you are NOT sending registered, you don't need to cover the entire box.

i'm up on the air about how much insurance to slap on these if they don't make it to their destination. >>

for items $700 or more total shipping bill is cheaper with priority registered. Insurance for regular priority starts getting very expensive the higher you go in value.

I have seen two box sizes posted so far for a 5 set box.

    One at 15 x 11.5 x 8.5
    and one at 14.5 x 11 x 8 weighing 15.25 pounds.

Can anyone else confirm the size?

Well, you can insure them for whatever you like but I'm pretty sure USPS will only cover your purchase price of $300/set.

Two months ago I did a price comparison using USPS.com for a 10 pound box with $3000 insurance from me to a BST buyer. I came up with the following:

Standard Priority & insured: $85.50 Special online rate: $81.11
Registered Priority & insured: $71.90 Special online rate: Not available
Express & insured: $82.75 Special online rate: $67.43

I sent it Express with the online rate. The best service for the lowest rate!

EDIT: Oops, posted to wrong thread, too many 25th set threads open...

I would expect USPS to recognize fair market value which is not difficult to establish.

Since you can't fit it into another box, I guess you'll have to take them out of the boxes and put them into plastic bags to protect them for shipping. That way, they'll fit into the smaller USPS boxes and save you a couple dollars! I would recommend you place EACH coin into a separate baggie though for safer shipment. LOL Congratulations.

The box I just received has the dimensions of the second one above, 14 1/2"(L) x 11"(W) x 8"(H) and on my scale, it weighs 15 1/2 lbs (not a digital scale).

Wouldn't this void the 25th Anniversary Set label for the 2011-(S), 2011-W Burnished Unc and 2011-W Proof? image

Just leave them in their capsules if sending in seperatly. But why open the mint box if sending into get graded?

I rec'd 3 separate single boxes today. They shipped single sets in the same size as a box of five, 15 x 11.5 x 8.5.

I WAS just kidding. You actually have to send them wrapped in Taco Bell napkins for a year to get the special "MOOSE" color for E-bay. LOL REALLY, Go with the USPS registered. I do routinely and have no insurance. NEVER had a problem. Even sent a complete registry for pedigree, in excess of 150 coins. Fit in 1 box, received back in PCGS boxes and I valued them at about $1000. Safe all the way around. Not for the faint of heart, but, the cheapest going. Good luck.
