I don't think you get my first point. This 25th anniversary set does not fit the definition of bullion. Yes, the SAE was originally introduced as bullion. But these sets will never be bought by anyone as bullion. Bullion = for investment purposes. 25th anniversary set = collectable US Mint issue similar to commemoratives, certain medals, proof sets and all that good stuff. And if you're saying they are just modern cr@p...yes, they're modern. But people collect modern coins.

Just ignore all the ASE posts, not hard. I will caution you all asking for a new forum for this and that wanting every topic to fit in a neat little forum category. That is the quickest way to go from a bustling forum full of knowledge to a ghost town. People hate places with too many forums. If ASEs are all bullion because they are made of silver then aren't all coins bullion of the metal they are made of? So then every topic in the US coin forum would move to the bullion forum... Just because the 25th threads are there doesn't mean people have to read them and it certainly doesn't mean they have to participate in them... Also, right now there are 1 or 2 "visible" threads on the 25th on the main page...there are much more than 2 threads I see on the main page that I wouldn't really participate in...so I just don't... Why can't a coin also be considered bullion? If a coin sells for a small premium over its melt value, it is bullion but it also doesn't stop being a coin. Right? In the case of the 25th anniversary ASE's, they are selling for many multiples of melt so there is no way they can be considered bullion.

What is this? You are asking a question when you should be looking up the answer yourself?!?!? Shame on you
The perpetual argument lives on. The 25th anniversary set is no more bullion than proof sets are just uncirculated coinage in my book although the set does contain one bullion coin.
WAAAAA WAAAAA WAAAAA....... Such rubbish... Cladking posted some intelligent and thoughtful responses.. along with a few other contributors. Most of this is just whining and ridiculous opinions. Cheers, RickO
There is an established numismatic term that describes the subject coins perfectly. I don't know why it hasn't been mentioned yet. It is used rather frequently in darkside circles.
It is used to describe coins that carry a face value, but trade for more than that amount because they are made of precious metal.
Just a few of the "Top Ten things that keep me interested in numismatics."
1) 2011 25th Anniversary reverse proofs 2) 2006 20th Anniversary reverse proofs 3) 2009- The year the mint reversed a decision to create the proofs & dropped the ball on collectors in lieu of feeding the bullion frenzy 4) Opinions of people regarding numismatics and collectible coins 5) Big honkin' , beer coaster holders with coins called "hockey pucks" I finally got my wish for a good "coaster". Thanks to the MINT. I was hoping for "genuine" holders that size as a novelty for a little less money from PCGS, or NGC regarding "gennies". Anything's good for the hobby, but investors trying to make money shouldn't pay a premium for this stuff if they're savvy investors. In my opinion, it's just bullion for investors (and that works, too). The few things that are collectible aren't really that great, so we move to the world stage and go after pandas, kookaburras, wolves, dogs, dragons, philharmonics, etc. On the other hand, I haven't seen any modern errors on eagles. This is something I find peculiar , aside from that 2008/07 reverse on one Eagle, my question is : Where's the beef ? They (the government minting facilities) are there to serve the collectors/investors and get people involved in something a bit more interesting.... like coins
I may or may not think this way or that way in the future. I'm just an observer making points and counter points. I try to follow my own path and remain objective in the game. Only grading is subjective. Everything changes in time.

<< <i>I just love they way some of you try to twist the facts to try and make ASE's anything but what they are........and that is BULLION!!!!
It's been explained over and over! I don't know if you are really that stupid or just set in your ways!
It sounds like you are set in your ways. This is an issue with a mintage of 100,000 and selling for a significant premium, doesn't sound like traditional bullion to me.
By the way if you want to be all by the book rules why don't you fix your signature because you are breaking rule #9:
Rule 9) Your signature may contain multiple images and/or links but must be limited to a single line. If you would like additional advertising space on this site please contact our Advertising Department. Violators will have their posting privileges removed. >>
And his avatar is larger than the required size too!

What's the "required size", Mr "I joined in October 2011"?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
<< <i>90% silver dimes aren't coins anymore............because they are now bullion. Threads about silver dimes should be moved to the precious metals forum.

This thread will morph into another 25th thread. I understand the OP's point, it's a bit much.
EDIT: Just counted 70 with 25th in the title, plus this one, so 71.
There are others for sure, without 25th in the title.

What is this? You are asking a question when you should be looking up the answer yourself?!?!? Shame on you

There is an established numismatic term that describes the subject coins perfectly. I don't know why it hasn't been mentioned yet. It is used rather frequently in darkside circles.
It is used to describe coins that carry a face value, but trade for more than that amount because they are made of precious metal.
They are NCLT. Non-Circulating Legal Tender.
Not "bullion", "moderns", or anything else.
NCLT.
1) 2011 25th Anniversary reverse proofs
2) 2006 20th Anniversary reverse proofs
3) 2009- The year the mint reversed a decision to create the proofs & dropped the ball on collectors in lieu of feeding the bullion frenzy
4) Opinions of people regarding numismatics and collectible coins
5) Big honkin' , beer coaster holders with coins called "hockey pucks" I finally got my wish for a good "coaster".
