Does this seated dollar look original?

I am very new to deciphering cleaned and non-cleaned coins...but I am trying to get better.
This is a seated dollar with toning that I love, but something just doesn't seem right. It is graded au-53 and in an NGC holder with no notations of cleaning, etc.
Just curious on your input. Thanks!

    First reaction was dipped and now retoning.

    IMO market acceptable

    You have to remember for a while cleaning coins was the norm in the 19th century

    It's a nice looking Seated Dollar. The coin has survived without any harsh remnants of a cleaning ( polishing ) , Nice grade and don't be overly concerned . It's completely Market acceptable even with the " Cleaning " .

    Yes, retoning after a light cleaning or cleanings, but market acceptable for the series. I would venture that the majority of seated dollars above VF have been cleaned at
    one time or another, and yet make it into slabs unless the cleaning was unusually harsh.

    Once dipped, perhaps, but perfectly acceptable in my opinion. (And in NGC's as well, apparently.)

    I like it.

    I once had a dream (and believe me, I almost NEVER dream about coins). But in this dream I had special powers and I could just blow warm moist air from my mouth onto coins like the one posted. It was the best dream because in this dream, I was actually able to give coins their originality back.

    Definitely dipped at one time. I'd have see it in person to say whether it is market acceptable for PCGS. Some of the high light colors in the photo give me reason to pause.

    Still it's attractive and chances are it will grade.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    But as many others have already said, market acceptable by today's standards. (But that's not what you asked, is it?)

    I do wonder a little if the op's coin is a circulated proof. It looks to of been lightly circulated and was a proof like coin at least. I agree it is market acceptable. image

    The details are there for the coin, but I don't like the look from the pictures.
    I would not want it, at this stage of my collecting, as I have gotten quite a bit pickier about the quality of the coin - else I pass.

    I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    AU Seated dollars mostly come in two flavors. Washed out, over-dipped white, or lack luster and drably toned in browns and grays, and in both cases they often have a lot of marks. One that has some pizzazz even if not wholly “original” is tough to find. An “original” example with pretty toning and sufficient luster to give it some pop is even tougher. Even MS examples are often unattractively toned in dusky colors that mute semi-proof like luster. The one you posted looks better than most to me even if not original.

    Terrible images, hard to tell anything from them.

    You'd have to look at that coin in-hand to know.

    If there's doubt, don't purchase it unless there is a return policy.
    Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

    No, I would not call it original. Likely dipped but not improperly cleaned. I think PCGS would be okay with it.

    It's not a look I pursue but tastes differ.

    Definitely market acceptable look, in my opinion. It does not appear to be from the Proof
    dies, as was previously suggested, just a sharp business strike.

    I would be happy with this coin at this grade level.

    It's hard to tell from your pictures, but despite the possibility of a light dipping/cleaning and retoning, it is still an attractive coin.

    Here's mine, graded XF-45. I tried my best to get an original example of this type, but one is never 100% sure.
