More along my main collecting theme--a uniface medal:

Well, I'll keep adding---here is one I bought that isn't art deco and isn't exactly a greyhound, but is a sighthound at least:

I have always loved greyhounds and they do lend themselves to the Art Deco look--I wonder if that's why the deco style medals have always appealed to me....

Just how many dogs do you have??? They look pretty content image.

Here is my youngest--I need to remind him to put the hand through the loop. My dog gets a few strange looks in Spain--the fancy collar and pet status and all that considering how much she looks like their galgos (Spanish Greyhound). The galgos are hunting dogs and treated pretty poorly as a class and not usually considered pets.

I have a couple more medals at work to photograph...I can't seem to find all my old photos so I can only inflict so many more on all you poor guys.

I'm partial to the "Penny Black" bust of Queen Victoria by William Wyon. It was used on quite a variety of historical and prize medals over much of the span of Victoria's rule. Here's an example in gold awarded in 1863 to M.C. Buszard by Cambridge University for excellence in law.

Some shields..............stork, just 2 greyhounds now . As many as 3 at one time. The fawn and brindle have gone over the rainbow bridge. image

    BTW, nice greyhound medals.

I'll keep with the greyhound/sighthound theme for a bit--a little battered but I like 'em:

Wow, that looks like there is some really impressive 3d effect there--is it more optical illusion? Very Cool!

This one is as I recall a uniface (or I just forgot to upload that picture into the bucket)
    image

One of my favorites--I have a silver one too, but no pictures of that one yet, "L'oevre des Barbares" ('the work of the barbarians' I think in English) by Croce-Lancelot (one of the slightly more rare female medal artists):

Who would have thought there'd be so many breastfeeding medals out there!

Here is an old shot of a coin/medal that I used to use as my icon on another forum. Sory for the picture quality.

Some of the smaller ones have the most amazing amount of detail. Cool!

The coin/Jeton of mine 1s 40mm in diameter and weighs 72g in the flip. It's a Moneron (France) 5 sols from 1792.
  • StorkStork Posts: 5,208 ✭✭✭✭✭
40mm...I don't know why I was thinking it was smaller. Very nice, and I'm also amazed at the condition of something from 1792..wow!

And, for the thread, another mom/baby:

    Silvered Monneron 5 sols.

For more info, these interesting pieces were described in detail by Richard Margolis in his article:

Matthew Boulton's French Ventures of 1791 and 1792:Tokens for the Monneron Freres of Paris and Isle de France

published in the British Numismatic Journal - Volume 58.

Stork I believe it to be a Coin. It has a date, and I believe a Monetary designation of 1 Penny. A darn expensive penny with a a 59 gram silver coin and1/5 oz of gold insert. image I have only found this one in all my years of searching. My avatar was taken from the front page of the Bi-metallic Coin Club magazine long before I found an actual piece.
