Why would an eBay seller Do This

This seller has maybe 400 or more auctions all for the same item and with free shipping.
What is there to gain from doing auctions like this??

Are his proof sets worth the $15 he's asking? I'm thinking about starting a collection of these, as I already have a few years. Do you all think I could pick these up for less money or is the $15 per set price worth the convenience?

He's offering free priority mail shipping which is $4.75 minimum. Maybe he wants to collect email addresses after everyone pays their penny then he declares the auctions invalid due to error.

I concur, eBay does not do that. Look at ended auctions on eBay. There are plenty of 1-cent, 6-sent and other-cent auctions. Never has eBay ever done such things.

Now, back to the original question, perhaps the seller is simply buying positive feedback. There was a fellow several years ago who listed several hundred coin auctions with different coin types. All were grab bags but were guaranteed a minimum of $1.00 value, which was the purpase price of the auction, including shipping. I bought ten lots. I would say I netter about $50 of coins for that $10.00 price. So, the guy racked up his feedback to a real high number, then started listing high dollar auctions. He ended up taking much of the money and running. He did end up getting caught, but I do not know what happened to him after that. I believe his name was Greer. He used to have something to so with error coins. Remember, this has been several years ago-maybe 8 or so.

sorry but that will not happen. i`m not so happy with ebay/paypal the last few years but what you say will never happen.

if this were true i have rolls of wheaties that i would be listing at 1 cent per coin and getting a buck each. $50 bucks per roll, imagine that. let me know how this works and i will start listing.

Its kind of like buying feedback.
Figure if the penny sells for 3c you lose 41c in shipping, but you gain the higher ebay score.
The more you have the less your selling fees in the long run.

Buying feedback, IMO. If you look at his feedback history, this seller has done this several times before. Each time, he had one buyer make many buys for one cent. It appears to be several hundred sells to one buyer at a time. The name of the buyer changes, but then that new name will make many many purchases. Then he'll do it all over again with another buyer. I wonder if he ever really has to incur the shipping charge of if that is simply an alt or a friend making all those buys.

Wow, he's gotta get at least 44 cents to break even on the cost of a stamp.

The only reason I could see doing something like this is to build up positive feedback, maybe. (Assuming the seller intends to honor all his obligations.)

I listed about 50 cheap coins (Unc common Mercury and Roosevelt dimes..$3 to $6 coins...with free shipping to get my 20%
Top seller discount back after some a-hole left me all 1's, costing me an additional $100 a month in ebay fees for several months.

I can't really say since I didn't want to try and find them in his 1500 auctions (he doesn't have
a search feature in his store) but the best way is to see what others are selling them for,
you know compare prices. Putting a proof set collection is nice. I finally finished one. Started with
my birth year 1950 and just got the 2011 the other day.

No...Late 60's early 70's sets can be had for under $10 almost anywhere...including Ebay...especially given that you don't know what you're getting here, you could receive 10 - 1972 sets at $147.50 that aren't worth $50.

Id love to see a link to one of these 1c wins , i worked my way through a boatload of them and each had a 67 feedback guy with a bid in forcing the bid up nearer 50c.
