Toned Walkers and Different Looks

breakdownbreakdown Posts: 2,408 ✭✭✭✭✭
If you had to choose a specific type of toned Walker from among the following, which would it be? I realize one is worth more than the others, but setting that aside for the moment, which of the three looks do you like (or like Ricko, would you send them all out for whitening?!)

The 1920:

The 23-S:

The 39-D:

Todd, thanks for the images. And as usual, thanks for any comments.

39-D. Clearly. A poll would be neat with these three looks

Oh yeah! Don't dip. Dip never crossed my mind, even for the first one. I had a Pr Walker that looked like the rev of coin #1 and boy it was horrid. But it was original. No dip.

Money no object? '39-D (it IS a MS67 after all)
Money and look an object? The 1920.....

as i scrolled down, i thought, good, better, best.

I really like the way the color on the last one starts dark at the rim of the top, then curves through the right obverse field and on through the top of the foot and hem of the flag

I like the 39-D as well, but the 23-S is a really nice-looking coin. When coins have a lot of dark gold/brown toning, they look too much like potato chips to me. Although I do like potato chips.
Let's try not to get upset.

Thanks for the comments. For what it is worth, the 23-S is my favorite of the bunch. The 1939-D is also very nice. I keep waiting for the 1920 to grow on me but it's a bit dark and as much so in hand.

The Ricko comment was for fun -- you can trust that I won't be dipping any of my toned coins any time soon.image

They're all very nice Walkers. Of the three, I'd choose the 1939-D as my favorite.

On #1, I like the obverse but the reverse is just so-so. The other two are both so-so in my opinion. Not too bad. Not fantastic, either. But OK.

PS (after second look): OK... a little better than "OK". The other two grew on me a little when I scrolled down again. They're nice coins. But I'd really wanna have 'em in hand and tip 'em around a bit in the light to assess the luster before I rendered a final judgment on their eye appeal.

I see the green bean sticker people agreed with my assessment. Didn't notice that until the second look, either. Nor did I look at the grades until the second go-round.

Well... as far as the COIN goes... the '39D would be my choice, but would likely pass due to the tarnish. And just to set the record straight, I do not remove tarnish from coins, I just do not buy them with tarnish. I store them so they do not tarnish. Cheers, RickO

    Challenging question.

The obverse of the 20 screams originality to me. However the reverse is too dark for my tastes. If the 20 had a lighter reverse it would win walking away.

23-S doesn't do much for me.

The 39-D offers a sampling of iridescence at twelve o'clock and appears to have the most powerful luster - it's my pick of the three as presented. 39-D is also an underrated date.
