LanceNewmanOCCLanceNewmanOCC Posts: 19,999 ✭✭✭✭✭
i stumbed across this listing

stolen image

it is the image for my item

my image and coin

You can clearly see the ding in the large feather on the obverse as well as where the image was cropped to remove the bottom image.

I have reported and would appreciate if you did as well.

Thanks in advance

while we are on the subject of fishy listings, what is your opinions of these 2?

strange holder and grade for coin

strange holder and grade for coin

it just seems the grades don't match the coins and also the F15 holder looks fishy

also the VF looks worse than the F.

i am tired and am seeking outside opinion.

    Have NOT reported.

    I doubt that a $65 or a $110 priced coin would be in a counter-fit holder image

    Hardly worth the trouble?

The seller even copied your description. They could have at least re-worded it a little.

It's up to the owner to report this infraction. eBay will not respond to second party report on cases like yours. Suggest you call them, instead of reporting it via message system. That method has always worked for me with quick nuking of the suspect.

Ebay has a special form to report copying of your listing, has to be filed by owner of what was copied

thanks for the extra link derryb

i do use this link currently

but will use the link you provided for these type of unusual circumstances

as well forward it to other people whom need it

i know this isn't an ebay monitoring forum but since we are all in coins and look out for each other

thought i would hit this one hard and fast just in case it were to spawn a chain of bad circumstances for our numismatic hobbyist

How dumb would a scammer have to be to run a stolen image on the same site and at the same time the owner is running an auction for the same piece?

I mean, c'mon, at least list it on another site or something. Geez.

The only other reason I can think of is if it were a case of laziness. Maybe he owns a similar coin and just preferred to steal some pictures of somebody else's to represent his.

Nah, I know. That's even more ridiculous.

    Weird.

I've done it before for other sellers listings and it HAS been pulled...Shoot last time I even got a nice message. If I can find it I'll edit...

    Edit:

    Dear Cass,

Thank you very much for reporting this listing to us.

I investigated this listing and agree with your assessment that the
images came from another listing and that the seller could not own the
coin being offered. I have ended the listing and given the seller a 7
day selling restriction. If this listing had completed an eBay could
have been out of a lot of money.

Again, thank you for your report Cass. We appreciate your help in
keeping eBay a safe and reputable forum to conduct business.

    Sincerely,

    Judith

ya i didn't send the seller a nasty message or anything, i simply preferred to have the listing removed for the benefit of all
    .
    .
if i knew the seller had the item i probably wouldn't have even reported it, and would tell anyone that asked why i had the same image it was ok for them to use it as long as it was close or at least offer to image the item for them.
    .
    .
my concern was the seller didn't even have a similar item and that negativity would be linked to my listings which i was not ok with
    .
    .
i went in debt to purchase a D90 Nikon with a $500 lens, copy stand, Mark Goodmans book on coin photography, an ac adapter, shutter release and have taken over 40,000 with all my cameras,

so i figure others should put at least a little effort to doing thing correctly or at least being humble enough to seek assistance from someone to help them do a good job.

ultimately that work and investment do benefit me but also benefit others because they get to see that it is possible to get some decent images to represent their items.
