***Poll: Does it make sense having your collector Mint 5 oz. ATB's graded by a major TPG?***

I've now got 5 of these coins and really think the Mint packaging is just fine.

It only makes "cents" if you are "lucky" enough to get a 70.

Well some collectors said the same thing! That it is just Bullion back when you could buy the 1/10oz. Golld Buffalo for $90.00 and a set for $1200 Now look at what they go for. I have both the collector one's and the Bullion one's I'll keep the colletor one in the mint box for now and the Bullion ones I'll keep raw so I can hold them and see them in hand to get my fix... But that is just me..

    Hoard the keys.

I now have all 5 numismatic issues.
The Mint packaging is just fine.
The coins themselves grade at least MS69 IMO and I'm a tough grader.
A less picky grader wouldn't bat any eye at grading these MS70.

My opinion may be a bit strong, so I'll reserve it and just take up some space here.

Yes, and the money made on graded bullion is nonsense too. Guess what I do with those nonsensical profits?

I would not have them graded, nor do I think I will ever own one. Might, if one really caught my eye at a show, just as a piece of exonumia - they are not really coins, but many people collect them. Cheers, RickO

As I am away on a family vacation prior to the ANA,
I was informed that UPS had made an attempted
delivery of the last ATB "P" mint Mount Hood 5 oz.

I called them yesterday to hold up the delivery until
I return from the ANA - which wasn't a problem... for
an additional $6.00 they'll hold up the delivery. LOL

It'd be $2.00 cheaper if I did it on line - but - I needed
the info on the slip attached to my door. Now, there was
no one I could call... everyone on my street are Winter
    Residents.

I know this was off track ... just had to vent.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, I am going to submit the five "P" ATB's issued this year
as PCGS has a Collectors Club Special... submit 5 pay for 4.

Isn't it sort of early in the game to be a "collector" of these? IMO we are mostly in the accumulation stage.

The only valid reason to have them graded IMO is if they ever significantly appreciate in value and the things milk spot. You'd at least be covered by a guarantee.

Having all 5 of the 2010s graded. Only because I like to play the 70 lottery. So far the results are dismal. 68,68,69.....Lost big time on the grading fees. These were all mark free coins but maybe the striking did them in.

It makes sense having them graded depending on their quality, just like every other US Mint collectable. However, if you're looking to collect and not too worried about resale, OGP is just fine.

For the "Ps"--worth it if you have a likely SP70 or a Grand Canyon in a high grade light finish.

For the bullion (even though this thread is about the "P" versions)--depends on the date and issue. Some of the 2010 bullion (like Grand Canyon) are worth grading even if it is a 68DMPL.

I still would not buy one.... IMO they will not be valued by the collector community for at least a hundred years... and then, maybe. One way to stack bullion though. Cheers, RickO

    A 100, I had planned on 10 years, but a 100, say it ain't so.

I am not really pressed, it will be stacked in it's mint packaging and left for dead until I decide to sell in 10 years. BTW I have 7 coins.

I now have a full set of 10 graded MS69 DMPL and love them as they are really beautiful and plan to keep getting them as they become

available. I will mot buy and have graded though as your chances of getting a 69 DMPL are slim. I will buy on the secondary market.

I am not purchasing the Ps anymore. I will buy the DMPLs if they are reasonable at price. It seems the ASEs are still blowing these out of the water as far as popularity.

That's ANOTHER reason I prefer receiving coins via USPS.......I find the policies of UPS and FEDEX to not being recipient-oriented.

For the original question: It's the same as any other bullion.....if it makes a 70, it makes sense. If you like to have a collection and don't want to risk any damage, it makes sense.
If you want it for bullion or just for fun, then it doesn't...and it is not a trivial expense...imho.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I'd like to understand why you say that, particularly if there is very high demand for 70s?
