Keep up the cool experiments. I am enjoying them.

Very cool! How does it feel to create, or recreate, your own pieces? I it definitely brings you closer to numismatics.

Have you thought of looking into spark erosion?

Sorry, I'm not big fan of copies. A few years ago there were some electros of 1793 Chain Cents in an EAC auction that were down right scary. They had the edge lettering and everything. The parent coin was a really high grade piece, and the electro put real coin in my to shame when it comes to eye appeal.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

You should electrotype a Daniel Carr creation.

Yeah, and with a wax mold, you could alter the design, adding the equivalent of a mustache to the Mona Lisa, as it were.

Were those done with full disclosure? I think the neat thing about these is that they are being done in the open and shared with the community. Additionally, the metal is different so there should be much less chance of confusion. Obviously, if there's an intent to deceive or full disclosure isn't given, then there can be an issue.

Also, over time, many reproductions, such as the Scovill Fugios, have become collectors items in their own rights and certified by top TPGs like our hosts. I wonder if we'll ever see an Omega labeled as such in a top TPG slab?

I hope not. That would be feeding an evil beast.

As for the metal, electors are plated with the proper metals to make them appear to be acceptable. The fact that this shows base metals is not a problem. The irregularities in the surfaces of the fields would be a give away to experienced collectors, but they might get past a beginner who does not know the appearance of the genuine token.
