ebay fees?
I just sold two items one sold for $500 and the other for $800.
I thought I did pretty well (almost break even) until I saw my ebay & paypal fees ($165.24).
After shipping I am paying over $200 for $1300 worth of sales, ouch.
I think I will try the BST before I go to ebay from now on.

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
Now if I put it on the BST at all, it is either a link to the Ebay auction or else I leave it for 24h and then go right to ebay.

A really handy fee calulater is Here.
Not much fun and the BST is definitely the place to be!

The eBay fee is 9% only if one doesn't have a store, and if one is going to be selling coins at these value levels the smart thing to do is get a store. With a store:
$500 sale - $21.75
$800 sale - $33.75
PayPal - $38.30
Total - $93.80
Since a store is $15.99 a month, the savings on these two sales alone would have paid for three months.

The only qualification for a store is paying the monthly fee.

the fees are ridiculous
Maybe if they lowered the fee's on the sellers, they wouldn't have to offer the buyers free money back. Its a catch 22... charge the sellers too much and then the price has to be outrageous to make a few bucks. Then you have to offer free money back to the buyers to get them to buy.

Russ,
You agreed the fees are 9% so where is the misinformation your taking about??
My figures are not misinforming and do not say that they are if you would Please.
Is is Not Very Polite to accuse me of misinformation. If you have another answer why not just post it and not
accuse me of something. You could have and should just posted about the store without mentionig my post.

eBay requires you have a credit card on file and have a verified Paypal account.
Those are not qualifications necessary to sell on eBay outside of having a store.

eBay does require a credit card on file to setup a seller account and verifying a PayPal account, while not required, is recommended and takes a couple minutes. If one is going to sell regularly, it's silly not to have a store and take advantage of the fee savings.

<< <i>for a non-store, buy it now final valuation fees are cheaper only if sale price is less than $120 or more than $2850. >>
BIN is not a sales format, it's an add-on feature in an auction listing. If by "buy it now", you mean fixed price, the final value fees are not cheaper than auction final value fees under any circumstances.
Edit: Just noticed you said "non" store. If you're talking about fixed price, you might be correct, (I'd have to crunch the numbers), since FP has a sliding scale even with no store.

<< <i>Yeap, ebay/paypal charge about 13% together. It is very hard to make money on ebay. >>
It all depends on the how you sell, as there are plenty of ways to minimize fees. Consider that if I sell a $200 item for someone, they only pay about 12% in fees, and that includes 5.5% going to me. If you're going to sell with any regularity, it is highly worthwhile to look into all selling options in a way to minimize fees. $16/month for a store is a bargain when the savings are factored in.
But, if I want to have a bunch of fixed priced items, then a store would save me on the fees of my fixed price (higher priced) items, correct?
<< <i>If by "buy it now", you mean fixed price >>
I believe "buy it now" is always a fixed price.
<< <i> If you're talking about fixed price, you might be correct, (I'd have to crunch the numbers) >>
easiest to crunch them here for a good approximation

<< <i>Russ, so if I only run 99 cent auctions, then there is no need for a store, is that correct?
But, if I want to have a bunch of fixed priced items, then a store would save me on the fees of my fixed price (higher priced) items, correct? >>
If you run only 99c auctions, and you never sell anything over $50 in value you may or may not need a store. Depends on the number of items you sell each month. However, if your average selling price is higher than that and you're moving quite a bit of material, you absolutely need a store. With a store, the FVF on auctions is graduated:
Up to $50 - 7.5%
$50.01 to $1000 - 4%
Over $1000 - 2%
No store, a flat 9% with a max fee of $100.
On FP items, the insertion fee is higher by 30c without a store, but the final value fee is higher either way at most value levels.

No, buy it now is an addition to an auction listing and would have the same final value fees as auctions. Fixed price is a different format.

The discount is fickle and easy to lose. It should be considered nothing more than a bonus, and not factored in to a business plan.

Russ, NCNE >>
I wasn't clear enough. Buy it now comes in two flavors: with an auction (BIN option disappears with an opening bid), or as a BIN only (fixed price). When BIN is selected from the "fixed price" tab during listing creation, the final valuation fees for the BIN are less than for an auction (items below $120 and greater than $2850) than they would be for an auction or for an auction with a BIN. Fixed price selection during listing creation results in a listing with a Buy It Now only.

Why not...most major websites and retailers do offer free shipping on some items, eBay is just trying to even the odds. BTW for hardline items, because of the free s&h fees, I make my purchases through AMAZON which is less expensive for a similar items offered on eBay in 90% of the time.
