An actual deal from HSN?
I just got home from work and was flipping channels and stopped to watch HSNs coin show. It looks like they struck up a deal with ANACS and they are offering MS70 2011 ASEs minted in San Francisco for $129.95. I have never bought anything from them much less a coin, but I think this is a great deal and wanted to get some thoughts from others.
If I heard right, this is exclusive to HSN from ANACS and they sent in a bunch of monster boxes and 3,429 of them came back MS70.

I may be wrong but my spidey coin senses are tingling. I can see these eventually bringing 3-5x value in a couple years. Comments please.

and i'm sure you heard right, EVERYTHING is an exclusive to these guys ('exclusive' is right up there with 'rare' and 'pq' for the most overused word in coin collecting award)
I will even go further and guess that a red oak presentation box was invoved, am I correct?

<< <i>I am not so sure that is a great deal, but out of curiosity, why do you think these will bring 3-5x value in a couple years? >>
MS 70
ANACS certified
First Day of Issue
San Fran mint
only source of ANACS MS70 ASEs if you collect those slabs
I know that PCGS and NGC are going to designate San Fran ASEs but how many will be MS70s and FDOI?
If you all think I am crazy call me out
(edited to put quote in)
i'm trying!! shall i go on?
Mike said they were only able to get a few and when these are gone, they're gone!
they were broken down on Easy-Pay
you can opt to get on Auto Ship where you'll be getting these until all silver deposits domestic and abroad are dried up
and again, i will mention the red oak presentation box
how close was I ??

hehe, yep.
Well, thanks for saving me $129.95. Thats one of the reasons why I come here
here is how i see it:
this is a bullion coin so the fact that you're even considering buying one makes me assume you're a "bullion guy"........for $130 most "bullion guys" that i know would rather add 3 ounces of silver to their stack than 1 ounce (in fancy plastic)
the name of the bullion game is stacking ounces......i dont know where you live, but i will say that you are probably within a short drive to a coin store that Monday morning would sell you 3 raw ASE's (perhaps you would have to settle for assorted years) for virtually the same price as this HSN deal
* and you're correct that ANACS doesnt carry the hobby gravitas that PCGS does, so a 70 grade from them is kind of like kissing your sister

Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.

What I said but, my way was a little less eye catching.
2) That show isn't known for deals and this still isn't one
3) The bullion coins in question have been offered in other (including PCGS) plastic, in that grade, and for a little less, by at least a few sellers.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

NOTHING compares to kissing your sister!
I used to be famous now I just collect coins.

<< <i>Oh, and another thing that makes me wonder... The price guide is listing PCGS First Strikes at $120. Yes, I know ANACS is no PCGS but still, MS70 for $129.95 does not seem to actually be that bad of a deal. Feel free to tell me I am insane if you think so, it won't be the first time I have been wrong. >>
HSN and other high priced venues occasionally do have a loss leader. They might sell a few items near cost to bring in more customers. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.
For ultra moderns the new ANACS is not respected and the even their top grade coins are worth only a modest premium. Look at some other grading companies and see how their past year 70s fair at open auction on the various auction sites such as Teletrade, Ebay or Heritage. For most ultramodern coins the price realized gap between PCGS 70s and other companies is astoundingly wide.
So my vote is thumbs down, way down, $130 for maybe about $45 worth of coin + slab. Want to take a financial bath? Buy from HSN. Odds are 98% that you will pay about 200% more than the item is worth. TV time is expensive, and the customers pay for it.

I've looked at a lot of recent ANACS graded coins and their grading is on par with PCGS, and stricter than NGC (in my opinion).
These guys go by the numbers. Thousands of obsessed HSN watchers will buy and their kids be dealing with this "rarity" on down the line.
Their only hope is if silver hits $130 an ounce.

Despite what you may think or what your "senses" may state, you are forgetting that ANACS MS70 SAE's will ALWAYS pale in comparison to NGC prices and will look like bullion compared to PCGS Prices.
MS70 Silver Eagles are danged near common coins anymore with, IMO, absolutly no upside from either a collecting or investment standpoint. At the very MAXIMUM, they are registry place holders and ANACS does NOT have an online registry. When you refer to "thousands" of MS70 Eagles, that's pretty much common stuff.

That may very well be true Daniel but the reality is that a PCGS Grade has more marketable value than an ANACS grade. ANACS is a good company and for variety collectors, their number one but unfortunately, the slabs simply have no market.

If ANACS did 3400 70's from one dealer do you really think people will open their wallets years from now to buy one over melt?
If $130 is burning a hole in your pocket, at least buy something worth $130. Like 3 ASE's in 69 or bump it a notch and go 1/10 oz AGE or a tad more and do a APE while its down. But following the hype is just that.
Luck to your choice
