Coins and Attitude

I love reading the posts about the adventures of coin collecting and enjoy reading when members are excited about a great new find. Most of the posts are very helpfull to a newbie and I am very gratefull . I have noticed however, that there seems to be one or two members with a cloudy, smirky out look on life in general and they reply only negitive thoughts to these boards no matter what the subject is.

Here is my question; If a member of this forum only reads these boards to put somone down or leave constant negative remarks, How would that effect their standing with you as a dealer and would you even make a transaction with them at all? Dollar or Distance?

Best not to pay the negativity any attention unless we wish to continue to perpetuate it. "Be the change we want to see!"

And quite honestly, I don't think when $$$ is flashed, attitude is much of an issue.

There used to be a member here that was very esentric and off the wall crazy. I still dealt with him until he a had "thumb print incident" followed by a "walker proof incident" Kind of sucks because he has some coins I like! So to answer your question, attitude dont bother me.

There are several dealers from whom I would not buy a coin under any circumstances because of their attitude (what I consider to be contempt for the retail customer).

The above being said, I got the same rush when I bought my AU Bust Dollar as when I was 12 years old and found a really old quarter in change (it was a 32 S, and I still have it).

I'd rather do business with stable, relatively happy people, than grumpy, spiteful folks. Because of this, there are certain forumites I would tend to steer away from. They tend to have a pattern of complaints, criticisms, 100-post long drama threads over minor incidents, or worse. Why invite that energy into my life? I might become the subject of their next 100-post long drama thread. It is a hobby. It is supposed to be fun.

Read the threads of people you like and respect, or topics you are

interested in. Try to ignore the few that tend to annoy you.image

It is notsible to be liked by everyone on the Forum. We all have

little habits or manner of humor that tends to annoy some. While

it is usually not done on purpose, it still annoys the heck out of

some folks. Not a problem as most if not all make every effort to

accommodate and live with one another on the Forum.

If someone has an attitude, it's their cross to bear.

( no bears were harmed with this post, I hope )

If a dealer has a nasty or rude attitude with me, I will sometimes give them another shot. If it happens again, I'm done with them.

    Hard to argue with that.

Spot on. One of my coins was the subject of an extensive discussion here. I did notice the poster who denigrated my purchase. Subsequently noted complaining threads from the same poster. Would absolutely have nothing to do with this individual. There are sourpusses in this world; best to avoid them at all costs. Still, the discussion of my purchase reflected quite positively on this board - there was only the one sourpuss.

Life is too short to waste your precious time associating with negative people.

For the vast majority of us here, these are just fun and recreational expenditures. For some reason, some dealers, who have minimal people or business skills, feel that they are purveyors of some special and unique commodity that will instantly transform the buyer into an entirely new social class, solely due to their business acumen when ripping the old lady who is selling her late husband's collection trhat included an XF 1909-S VDB. Guys and gals . . . this is supposed to be fun. Your numismatic venture required no excessive sacrifice or education. You 'declared' yourself a dealer and 'went with it'.

This is a hobby. Sure, for a few it becomes a business, but many dealers I know are retired guys doing this as a second job after their primary career has been long over. I REALLY respect the few dealers who use this as their primary income source and work VERY HARD in the numismatic industry, but hey . . . . if your attitude is condescending, and your total contribution to society for the last 30 years has been working up to assistant manager at WalMart prior to your immersion into numismatics . . . spare me the attitude.

Possession of a key-date coin is merely fortuitous and affords you no entitlement of 'attitude'. You are a salesman, like the guy who came to my door 30 minutes ago to hawk window remodels. However, if you get to know me, gain my trust, try to find out what I am 'about' and what I want to collect, you will become trusted, my friend, and a critical part of my life.

    That's attitude.

Recent threads make this one topic worthy. My take quoted at the end, stands as good common sense.

Just as their is a circle of trust, there is also an avoid list, and a lot of that has to do with attitude, number and frequency of complaint threads, number of posts in those complaint threads.

Again I'll end with: It is a hobby. It is supposed to be fun.
