Help.....How Rotate A Coin in Slab

Sold one of the new 5oz ATB's to a customer...of course on e-bay. It rotated 10% during shipping.

Anyone have a trick to rotate the coin back....mind you this is one of the large slabs.

For normal-sized slabs, you can knock it against something, so the coin is at a 45 degree angle (I use a book on my desk). The coin rotates in the holder. Never tried the 5ozers.

Not sure how well it'll work with a hockey puck, but if it rotated when packed for shipping, it's probably easy to rotate back without him bashing a hole in his table.

I've done that. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. At any rate rotated coins drive me nuts and takes some of the fun out of owning them. I've got an 1807 half dollar I'm thinking about having reholdered to get it back into position. I can't move the darn thing, no matter how hard I try, and it's close to 90 degress out of rotation.

Soak the slab in break-free and wd-40 for 3 weeks and it should slide back in place like a compass pointing to true-north.

Not sure whether it works with the big slabs either, but for the smaller ones I've been able to rotate every coin I've tried using this method and even though you bang the heck out of the slab, never damaged one yet

Doesn't that hurt?

I usually grab a thick, soft-covered book and
bang the slab repeatedly on the cover. A nice SAT book
usually does the trick

wouldnt that possibly start AT or alter the coin toning in some way? Probably not but worth to at least ask that silly question ( Im thinking like the sun baking a coin with a taco hell napkin).

Honestly though, it really bothers people to have coins rotated in their holders? You buying the coin or the holder?

Yeah its annoying. I ilike to look at my coins togetehr as a group and having one rotated screws it up. I thoguht pCGS solved this problem when they stopped using rattlers?

The edge-view gaskets, such as those used on the pucks, don't hold the coin as tight as the normal ones. Since the hockey pucks are 5+ times more massive than ASEs, silver dollars, and $20 gold, I would imagine there's more than enough inertia for overcoming the friction between the gasket and coin if one of those holders is unfavorably jostled in transit or thrown and caught like a frisbee. Perhaps someone with a slabbed puck in hand can experiment and report so that James can put a notice in his auctions explaining what might happen and how to correct it.

I usually hold the slab vertically and tap one corner on a hard surface. If it rotates in the wrong direction, I just tap the other corner.

Nope, if you hit it against a hard surface a couple times
it still causes the coin to tilt, albeit much less than a rattler.

If all else fails, you could just mail it to yourself and hope that it rotates back.
