Had an eBay buyer cancel purchase after I shipped item. Need help

I sold an ounce of Pd last week on eBay. In the add I stated "no returns" due the volatility in PM 's. I shipped the item out and informed the customer with a tracking number, I also used signature confirmation. I just noticed today in my PP account the buyer has requested to cancel the transaction and PP says I have 60 days to refund him his payment.

I havn't received any emails from the buyer or eBay. My question, am I required to refund him his money? He has my bar, and I just want to protect myself from being screwed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

depending on the shipper, you might be able to intercept the package and get it returned

Scary scenario. I'll be watching to see how this turns out. You need immediate direct contact with buyer. I would call, get number from EBAY and call if possible. Forget about the sale and trying to force him to go through with the deal. Your goal now is to get the item back so you don't get ripped. If you can speak to buyer and get a committment from him to simply return the unopened shipment to you, I would even offer to pay return shipment. Be as accomodating as you can to get your item back...then block from futher auctions. If you can get out of it with that outcome; it's a home run.

If PayPal indicated..."ok to ship" after payment was made & it was shipped, buyer no longer has the option to "cancell" the transaction, however, he can opt to return the item after it is received. Suggest you contact payPal for further instructions. Do not refund anything, until after you have your coin back.

I wouldn't jump the gun just yet. The buyer will need to provide a return label to paypal before the refund is required. I don't quite understand what you are saying. Paypal demands you refund his money while he keeps the item? Doesn't sound typical of Paypal. Just call them, provide them with the same information you provided here.

And I never run into these sort of problematic buyers that I read about on here. Maybe its just in the coin world? :-/

Is it just me, something just doesn't add up here. I suspect there is more to this story than the O.P. is giving us. I've never heard of paypal demanding a refund before the item shows as received.

Out of interest , can a buyer request cancellation after paying ? It never occured to me to check before,seems like that option would be removed after payment is made.

Edited to answer my own question , Yes the option is still there after payment.

Good advice. I also agree that paypal doesn't tell sellers to refund money. It is possible buyer's transfer of funds or credit card charge didn't go through. If you shipped before paypal posted "OK to ship" on their details page then you've got a problem and need to try to have post office immediately intercept and return item. In this scenario you will lose your money to paypal and your item to the "buyer."

It is important that all ebay sellers know that the paypal details page has to say "OK to ship" in order for seller protection to kick in. Sometimes there are delays in paypal getting the money from the buyer (bank transfer, insufficient funds, etc.) and paypal will hold back on saying "OK to ship." Without the "OK to ship" statement on the paypal details page you have no paypal seller protection.

Not through paypal. Only through ebay or private email, and it takes agreement from the seller. Seller agreeing to cancel a sale should do so through ebay, they have a process that will insure return of selling fees.

Yeah,that's what i mean't , i went and checked my own ebay.I'd bought another phillies hat : ) and it shows shipped , done there , but under my options tab i could still request to cancel my purchase. I'd have thought with all ebay's upgrade wizardry they could polish up the finer points and that option would no longer be there,replaced by request a refund.

I was always under the impression that if the seller has a NO RETURN policy, then a return only becomes an option if the seller pulls a SNAD.

How could presumably genuine bar of Pd be SNAD? Can a buyer claim SNAD w/o having to offer up any evidence??

Just to answer a few question: yes, PP marked it ok to ship. I went to the USPO to ship, I did not used eBay/PP shipping. I just got off work, so this my first chance to respond.

Just to clarify, PP has not "demanded" me to refund his payment, at least not yet. The buyer purchased the item on the 9th, I shipped out on the 10. Now when I go into PP, there is a column "Order status/Action". Well the order status has been marked as "canceled" and the action had been marked as "issue refund". So I click on details and it says I have 60 days to make a refund. And it shows it was cancelled on the 11th, the day after I shipped.

Today I contacted the USPS and the item is scheduled for delivery today, so I couldn't reverse the shipment. I also called PP. The first representative told me he dosn't see any action marked as cancelled, so he forwarded me to his supervisor. The supervisor told me the same thing, he says everything looks kosher. I asked him if I am safe, do I need to do anything with this sale at he moment. He responded everything looks normal.

Perhaps this is some sort of glitch in the PP system, idk. I just sent an email to the buyer thanking him for his purchase, and politely asked him to leave me positive feedback after the item arrives. I don't normally ask for feedback, but I just want to know if he actually cancelled the order, or if PP somehow screwed up in the system.

If the buyer did cancel the order on his end I'll be blocking him and will release his ID.

Absolutely. Had it done to me a few times with P/N certified coins. Buyers do not need any verification for feepay to pull the trigger. Had to refund including postage.

Registered or any insurance over $500 can't be done with paypal shipping.

Hopefully you purchased the necessary proof of delivery. If so manually enter the shipping number off your USPS receipt into paypal tracking info from the details page. That will automatically enter it into ebay "My ebay."

If paypal determines you owe them the money they can (per your agreement) go after it through a collection agency.

In my ebay account, it kept telling me an item awaited for some action by me. I'd click on it, nothing there. Hit the back button, still there.
