in U.S. Coin Forum
How common is it for major dealers to have its employees trolling other web sites for their inventories. I'm just picturing dedicated people looking at other dealers coins all day for a living.

Does this happen like I'm picturing?

    There is one such man on Numissociety. But that's not the only thing he does in the shop.

    If you were in biz, wouldn't you watch your competitors?

    Aren't most dealers hawking each others coins any way?? Seems like 2 or 3 sites will all have the exact same coin.

    Yes I would. It just happened to me, bought a coin I saw a week earlier on another site. I was too slow the first time. Just wondered how common this was.

    Well I’m not even what could be considered a dealer but not long ago I bought a coin on a web site and turned around and sold it on another and made a few dollars.

    If it's made it onto a dealer's website, then it has probably already been reviewed by many of the major dealers that would otherwise be interested in it.

    For most dealers, the good coins get sold before they reach the website.

    I've never seen a dealer miss the opportunity to cherry pick another dealer.image

    Seriously, dealers that have want lists to fill will check other dealers inventories to fill those want lists.

    ive heard of such a thing. im not sure thou how many i would want to be the payroll doing this. any insight anyone on that?

    it is important to know the prices set by your competition. If they are too low you can purchase and resell. If they are what you consider too high, then maybe you are selling too low.
