How common or rare is a 1961 DCAM dime?

Cameo dimes of this date can be found. DCAM's are another thing. I have found a 1961 proof set in OGP that has a hazed over dime that looks to be DCAM on both sides. I will be picking it up from the dealer fairly soon and can not wait to get my hands on it to remove the haze and see what lurks beneath.

Your thoughts please.

It's fairly common... it would need to be a total monster to be worth grading

I agree; even a PR69 DCAM can be had for less than $200.

I think they are hard to come by.
I have been looking for one for a while with not much success. I have seen 1960,1963,1964 a bunch, but not 1961 or 1962.

Regardless of whether or not the value of a 1961 DCAM dime is high enough to justify the expense of having it graded, my experience has been that it is not an easy coin to find [raw or graded].

I have hunted for raw 1950-1970 cameos for around 10 years now and have never found a DCAM 1961 dime until I stumbled across the set I mentioned in the OP. 1960, 1963 and 1964 DCAM dimes are much easier to find than 1961 and 1962 DCAM dimes.

I agree with your assessment of the relative scarcity of 1960's dcam dimes. The 61 and 62 are the toughest followed by the others.
Back when I used to diligently track the pops, I was always amazed at the low pops for 61 and 62 in high grade. (Don't know what the pops are today, but 10 years ago there were only 38 '62's and 58 '61's in 69dcam. (108 '60's, 153 '63's, and 219 '64's) Sure, the pops are all higher today, but it always has been hard to find a really nice 61 or 62.

Been along time since I put together my Roosie proof registry set, but a few years back when I was, none of the 60's dates were tough. Couldn't swing a dead cat at a major show or big time Heritage auction without a bunch of 69DCAM's being available. Not just NGC either. Plenty of PCGS 69DCAM's for the 60's dates. The early 50's dates were WAY tougher as I recollect. 59 was tricky too if I recall.

1950's DCAM proofs are much harder to find that those of the 1960's.

When I mention that 1961 DCAM dimes are hard to find, I say that in the context of looking for raw examples in OGP sets or aftermarket sets.

Even if the certified population numbers for a 1961 DCAM dime is in the hundreds, that does not mean that the coins are easy to find raw.

As for certified coins, out of 3,000,000+ minted, a certified population in the hundreds for DCAM 1961 dimes is rather small.

However, if you can routinely find slabbed DCAM examples of a 1961 proof dime available on E Bay, Heritage or other auctions sites, then it not a hard coin to find and buy. So I guess you have to define what it is your are talking about. 1961 DCAM dimes are very hard to find raw, even though they are routinely available on the marketplace in a slab.
