2nd Chance offers on Ebay

AhrensdadAhrensdad Posts: 2,583 ✭✭✭
I recently sold a coin on e-bay, a 1954-S PCGS MS66RD lincoln of which I have 50 of these. Buyer paid, coin delivered, positive feedback left by both parties. Deal done. Is it okay to offer an indentical coin to the underbidder at the price of his bid?

Yes - and you can do that with multiple under-bidders.

The coin pictured won't be the one you ship to the underbidder.

Sure, as long as you specify that it's a different coin, and perhaps show a picture of the one you are going to send.

I don't see why not? The underbidder may request an image of the coin you'll send to him. Why not just list a group with a Buy It Now?

Partially because I don't really know what I'm doing yet. Also, I figure it a good way to learn, and get my feeedback up at the same time. I've been on ebay for years, but not very active and as a result I only have a 100% feedback rating of 59.

    Thanks for your help.

You can offer a 2d chance to any of your bidders....but don't hold your breath in anyone accepting it. The odds are about 1 in 10. Good luck.

Indeed. In my experience it's about 1 in 5 or 6 that accept it, still fairly low IMO. I think it has to do with the Ebay "gotta get me a deal!" mentality. I suppose they figure you'll just relist if they decline, where they can bid a bit lower and still win now that that the previous top bidder won't be looking to bid on another identical coin.

Thanks for the help everyone. I did make the 2nd chance offer. It was accepted and paid within 20 minutes. The coin has already been shipped. Not a big sale, but another coin moved through the cycle.

Now I have to figure out the right type of auction to use for each coin. 99c no reserve versus buy it now, no auction versus auction with higher start price to protect downside....It's a learning process.
