Good find. That's not nearly as bad as ATS.

PCGS offered them for a brief period in 2009, and then they backed away from the offer. I asked CS to pass along an inquiry to the operations manager several months ago about the possibility of having 38 mm Mint Error Dollars with edge features put in to these holders. No response forthcoming. image

I like the clear prongs, easier to see the edge detail.

That is what they mainly use in Paris and they do loads of gold there.

Every coin I have bought that was holdered in the Paris office (from a German dealer) was encapsulated Edgeview.

    I like it.

pretty neat, I'm a fan of this and the NGC prong holders.

This is really the way to go if you need to see the edge. The NGC holders hide part of RIM of the coin, and make it impossible to photograph a slabbed coin without those ugly white distractions on the rim.

Can't wait to see one in person. It looks like a definite improvement.

Why can't PCGS use this type of holder in the U.S.?

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Not nearly as bad, but the prongs are still distracting in photos IMO. It seems you can't have it both ways, in-slab photos without prongs and edge view holders. It's still nice to see the edge of the coin though, just get your photos before slabbing or after you crack it out image

Based on the ones I have seen, the coins graded in Paris say Paris on the PCGS label.

There are a bunch of moderns in edgeviews on ebay, such as this one:

    2009 Sac dollar

    2011 Sac dollar

Don Willis or Davis Hall out there? Can anyone explain why PCGS doesn't use this superior edge view holder here in the United States?

I will even donate a slogan for free: "Coins look bolder in an Edgeview holder"

or maybe "Buyers don't say 'screw you' to coins in an Edgeview".

Feel free to use either or both. My gift to Collector's Universe.

Edge views do seem to be popular these days. They are even doing edge view in Asia now. This is from ACCA based in Taiwan:

One of the things my proposed National Numismatic Commission (NNC) headed by the National Numismatic Czar (NNC) would do is to require the use of Edgeview holders only by all TPGs. All coins in non-Edgeview holders would be required to be resubmitted so they may be put in an Edgeview holder.

What is this NNC? Where can I find more information on it? image

I think you'd get a lot of resistance from people if they needed to pay a reholder fee for all their TPG slabbed coins.

I spoke to PCGS, and they said its in the works, but no date has been set. It can be requested for certain coins, and if they have the size available, they will use them.

Coin collecting has been too much fun, too interesting and too much of a bastion of freedom for too long. It is time that there were strict rules and those rules be inforced. So I am proposing (demanding) the formation of the NNC headed by the NNC.
