ARRESTED for paying bill with change.....

Not arrested for paying a bill with change, arrested for being a giant pain in the butt. Were is your reading comprehension?
(Throwing the thousands of pennies on the counter and insisting they be counted didn't win favor either.)

This story was discussed already on another thread.

Paying with pennies was not the problem. The penny guy acting like a jerk by throwing coins on the floor and at people was the problem.

Almost every state in the United States has a disorderly conduct law Disorderly conduct is typically classified as a violation or misdemeanor for which you are arrested and released shortly after being issued the citation....

    this is from the article.....

Police have charged Jason West, an aggrieved medical patient in Vernal, Utah, with disorderly conduct
the arresting officer contended that West's protest served "no legitimate purpose." The charge carries a fine that can go as high as $140

That's from a blogger's rewrite of the original Deseret News article here

    http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705373882/Police-cite-Vernal-man-accused-of-paying-bill-with-2500-pennies.html

The blogger put in the term "arresting officer" which does not exist in the original.

VERNAL — A Vernal man has been charged with disorderly conduct after police say he caused alarm when he paid for a disputed medical bill in pennies.

On May 27, Jason West went to Basin Clinic prepared to dispute an outstanding bill, according to Assistant Vernal Police Chief Keith Campbell. West, 38, apparently did not believe he owed the clinic the $25 it said he did.

“After asking if they accepted cash, West dumped 2,500 pennies onto the counter and demanded that they count it,” Campbell said. “The pennies were strewn about the counter and the floor.”

The incident upset clinic staff, said Campbell, adding that West's behavior served "no legitimate purpose."

Clinic staff told West they were calling police and he left the office. Officers caught up with West later and issued him a citation for disorderly conduct, an infraction, which carries a potential fine of $140.

The case will be heard in Vernal City Justice Court.

How would you like it if someone owed you a lot of money and they just dumped a bunch of cents in your driveway or front yard?

In this case it was not so much the mode of payment as the conduct...... Perpetrator guilty, case closed. Cheers, RickO

"Disorderly conduct" is a vague and undefined so-called "crime." Should be unconstitutional.

A humorous 2nd thought to this $140 fine.

Isn't that still less than what coinstar charges for taking in $2500 of coins? image
