Two Lincoln Cent albums I picked up at a local auction yesterday...how did I do?
I picked these two old whitman albums up yesterday at an estate type auction for $50, how did I do? (Note: There were alot of silver dollars and a few gold pieces and it seemed everyone's attention was on the CC dollars and 1928 Peace along with the gold coins- these penny albums seemed to have slipped under the radar):

The albums- last coin in was a 1966

1909-S VDB ? Thoughts and opinions?

1909-S ? Thoughts and opinions?

Coin that was in the 1922 plain slot ? Thoughts and opinions?
I had looked in the first album prior to the auction and not in the second until I got home, I had just mentioned to a friend that the only thing that could make this book valuable would be a ....

1955 DDO ? Thoughts and opinions? - I have to say my jaw just about dropped seeing this one
Now do I get a you suck, or a you got taken ? There was no 14-D or 31-S in the set, most of the other coins were there. I'm a little skeptical of the DDO- I can't see the lines by the T in the cent that a genuine coin is supposed to have, but it does look to have been in the book along time and it looks to have wear, a lamination and some verdigris.

Edited to add: The Mint Mark on the VDB actually looks to be in the right place for position 4, but it looks to be sitting on top of the coin. I feel it may be added, but it could just be the photo!

Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
I'm suspicious of the 1909-S VDB, isn't the dot between the D-B supposed to be centered? It may be lighting, but it doesn't look to be centered in the photo.
For those skeptics out there, almost 20 years ago (sheesh I'm old) I was at a similar auction and bought three books just like those. In the hole for the 1922 Plain was a well worn but genuine Die Pair #2 example, I sent it off to ANACS where it graded Good-4. I also know someone who around the same time found a 1955 Doubled Die in a Whitman folder. Most bidders (and apparently lots of auctioneers) won't even bother looking closely at those books, especially if the coins look heavily circulated.
Kevin, you should change the title of this thread to "Hey n00bs, *this* is what a YOU SUCK looks like!"

Well done for $50.
<< <i>The 55 Double Die looks to have damage. >>
Couldn't be a lamination...could it? Hmm..

It's a possibility.
Of course hopefully ya got lucky and they were wrong...and for $50 ya can't go too wrong.
<< <i>I'm not sure a 1909S-VDB and 1955 double die would slip underneath the radar, unless it wasn't in the auction description. I would say that every buyer there concluded the 1909S-VDB was a fake based on the very meager selling price, and the double die is a filler.

The two books were a late week addition to the auction, I was the one who actually informed the auctioneer that it had the VDB and wasn't a plain 09-S, he was so happy he took it out of the album and put it into a flip and stapled it to the front cover! I think if the original auction listing had listed it was in the album there would have been more interest in the set for sure. I actually didn't even stay for the auction, I left a bid of around $400 for the set with the clerk and was informed last night that I won it and picked up the coins today. I was pretty sure the 22 was just a worn D from just looking at it yesterday. Most of the buyers were local coin "experts" who were there mainly for the silver lots- they had over 150 circulated Silver Dollars and a few GSA and non-GSA CC's that also drew alot of attention as well as some large sterling lots. The auctioneer when he handed me the books today said he thought I got one heck of a deal, he even said he tried to work the crowd to get the bids higher for the seller, but his time was limited!- lucky for me! There's a semi-local dealer who I can trust that I will probably show the coins to next week and see what he thinks- if their worth sending in for grading etc.. Meanwhile here's a close up of the date and mm on the S-VDB
I have a Whitman book since I was a kid. Needs 4 more coins.
