Larsen's First Half Cent... Guess the Grade... GRADE REVEALED
Here's Larsen's first Half Cent. (Ron) Bochiman led us to this coin. We searched dozens of dealers sights... Half Cents are TOUGH!!!!!! There's removed spots, verdigris, PVC, blotchiness (is that a word?)
, odd toning, etc. This was the first "clean" one we found. OUCH! I know the photo isn't too clear, but you may be able to take a WAG?
Edited to ADD: It's in PCGS plastic.

I won't vote though as I don't want to give it away. It looks nice and I think Larsen will like it
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

just your photo
Nice half cents are tough! I've been collecting type for 4 years now and have added exactly zero half cents to the set. The hunt goes on .....

Nice looking coin, but all i see is halos and a tiny bit of luster on the neck, so i sure hope it doesn't mint state.

Larsen is going for a certain look and a specific grade... once this grade is revealed, any future Half Cent GTG threads should be very easy!
Uncirculated, with some Mint Red showing. Not too many AU Red & Brown half cents running
around.
<< <i>RB? I thought he liked chocolate.
The coin in the slab looks a lot more chocolate.
Yes, he does love dark chocolate! When he was younger, I bought he and Larissa some Santa chocolate figures. He took a bite into one of the reindeers, looked at me and yelled "You bought me hollow chocolate!" Boy, I sure did learn a lesson that day!
<< <i>I guessed 53, but I could be grading the pic.
I'll reveal the dealer (very respected) and grade in a couple hours. I thought the photo looked about right, then I realized I had my reading glasses on!
Here's a bigger challenge, and I'm not trying to be a smart Alec. Try and find a Braided Hair half cent in VF or lower with no problems. It's much tougher in those grades than in AU. It's easy to see why the half cent went by the boards. The last ones didn't see much circulation.
Larsen's trying to assemble a circulated Everyman Half Cent set. It's kind of scary how many unattractive copper are slabbed... if Larsen's raw copper looked like 70% of the slabbed copper, I don't think he would have picked copper to collect!
