Oblong coin

I was wondering why a coin would be Oblong instead of round? What would cause this? I purchased a high end bust quarter from a buyer on Ebay a while back who deals mostly with problem coins. He had this Bust coin listed not mentioning it's problem and also took the pictures with the coin at an angle so it I was unable to notice untill I recieved it. It was very noticable in hand. He was willing to refund my money and took the coin back. The dealer then after getting the coin back claimed he was sending it to PCGS to see what they thought. He said it came back in a Genuine holder. Could the coin acutally be Genuine and what would cause the oblong shape? The images are no longer available as the listing has expired or I would post them.

Genuine means, in a general sense, that the coin is authentic, but damaged. Cheers, RickO

Yes elongated is probably a better word for it. Maybe it was a souvenir machine. The details didn't appear to be damaged.

My rubber chicken only eats elongated cents. If I fed him round coins he'd choke on them . So Elongated he gets image
