<< <i>I wonder how many commenting have actually read the thread Hoarding copper cents isnt a scam nor a ponzi..sheesh >>
x2....people need to learn to get all the facts before they open their yaps, or in this case, type something stupid. This was something I was doing a few years ago. Funny to see that others far more intelligent than me are finally thinking about it. I did it for a while, then decided without buying a Ryedale, it was way too darn much work for so little profit. My time is far more valuable than that. Anyway, so I started up a copper bullion investing company and began producing copper bullion bars just like many of the companies that produce silver and gold bars. The difference is, my bars were all hand-finished and polished to a high luster. That high-luster finish made them beautiful and collectible. Due to health reasons, I sold the company shortly after starting it, but the guy who is running it now is still going strong. Look up www.bestcopperbars.com to see how neat they are.
They are indeed sweet , i like those. I agree it is encouraging to hear more about copper from higher quarters , i know i'm not alone in hoarding pre 82's for years now. Thanks for showing those
<< <i>Let's say I accrued 5 million copper cents-- how much would that weigh? How much space would it take up? Doubling your money is one thing, but if you need an earthmover to haul it around... >>
5 million copper cents would weigh just under 1/2 ton. They could fit into a 6 foot pickup truck bed.
Now if you smash the cent it's no longer money can you do that befor selling it as scrap copper? Kinda like waffleing a coin and why a Cent why not a Nickel with 75% Copper and 25% Nickel?

To be fair the OP's statement was:
<< <i>What if someone offered an investment in coins that guaranteed you wouldn't lose a cent and promised that you could potentially double your money within one year? Would you do it? How much would you invest? >>
It mentioned nothing about investing in copper. I think a lot of the responses are based upon what they would do given the original question, not about what they would do after the revealing of the underlying investment by the OP.
And even after the reveal of the answer to the trivia question, as it's worded, "guaranteed you wouldn't lose a cent" I would still invest $0 if this were presented to me as is. Nothing is guaranteed, neither return nor preservation of capital, and to put my money with someone who would advertise this without acknowledging the fact that, however unlikely, my capital could be compromised, would be doing myself a disservice.
They're called black swan events for a reason. There is always the chance that something could happen with this investment too.
BTW TheShampineCollection, those bars are beautiful. I wouldn't stockpile pre 1983 cents but I would buy one of those if I ever delve into physical copper.
<< <i>Had you read the thread you'll see the OP mentions early on it's about pre 82 cents , yet the scam and ponzi comments keep coming. >>
I've been following the thread from the start. As I said I think most people are answering the question based upon the OP's original question, not based upon his question in light of the answer.
Kind of a "what is your knee jerk reaction to this question".
No need to get on their case for answering the question as it was posed.
Thank you to everyone for the compliments on the polished copper bars. I no longer own the company that makes them. I have no vested interest in showing them off other than the fact that I am proud to have been the one who invented the polishing process that made them so beautiful.
David Hall, a few years back in his old newsletter made a guarantee that certain coins (MS-65 buffalo nickels etc, etc. ) would go up in value by a certain amount or he would refund the subscription price of $50 or so in full and give us a lifetime subscription.
Of course, the coins did not go up by the requisite amount but truthfully, I enjoyed getting the subscription for free, that was a better deal! Probably, most of the collectors who paid the $50 was hoping for the free lifetime subscription too! LOL.

Was the change in composition made in 82 or 83? I always thought it was 83.

Mid way , some 82 are zinc , some copper. The only way to tell is weigh them.A copper is 3 grams and zinc 2.5 , its just easier to say pre 82

Change made in 1982. That's why there are seven varieties in 1982!
