How best to sell 2006 Ben Franklin Silver Commems??

What do you think is best way to sell a large lot of 2006 Ben Franklin Silver Commems?

Talking about 200-300 coins(mix of proof and unc)

APMEX is paying close to spot

PAN show coming up in Pittsburgh also(not far from there)

  • Do you have all OGP for them? If you have all boxes, capsules, COAs you should be able to get well over spot (+20%) for the "Founding Father" proof pieces.
  • Yes, Have all mint packaging/COA's

about the same number of all 4 types(Founding Father and Scientist, PF and UNC)

actually have many more than the 200-300... but only looking to sell off that amount for now

I think that you will need to find a dealer who does a high volume in modern commemorative coins to have any hope of getting more than the melt value for these coins. Looking at the Gray Sheet, the Uncirculated Franklin commemorative dollars are selling for no more that the very common commemorative dollars that are now going to melting pot. The Proof coins are supposed to be selling for three to five dollars more, but I don't know that you will be able to get that. As a dealer, I never ran into any other dealers at a major show, like FUN, who were paying Gray Sheet "bid" for modern commemoratives; they always offered something less.

My view is that you are looking at a bullion price situation here, and given the the price for silver bullion, this might be a good time to sell if you think that silver has hit its peak.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
