A HUGE rare date gold coin is offered at DWN

These are usually sold at auction and rarely seen in dealer inventories. At one time, it was my dream coin but I satisfied myself with a more modest 70-CC $5.

Post your 70-CC $20, if you have one (of the 40 or so). image

Or just post your CC gold coin.

now THAT'S a tough date/mm set! only bested by perhaps the 1854-S (both play second fiddle to 1870-S however)

That's pretty cool to see a coin that important on Doug's website. The image is pretty nice. The color is appealing. I wonder if he owns it outright or if it is a consignment.

It is interesting that this great rarity is being offered for $70,000 less than its sale price a few years ago.

Why does this matter? Not judging at all, just wondering what conclusions would be drawn from knowing this----------------BigE

Here is my lone CC gold coin. It is a very coppery PCGS MS-63. The funny thing I'm attracted to the gold dollars through the five dollar gold pieces. The $10 and $20 gold coins are not nearly as interesting to me. I don't know why.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

The only one I have. Haven't found a holed $10 or $20 yet. The plug in this one is in too well to be knocked out.

    $345k in 2008 to $275k in 2011

20% loss over 3 years or 6% per year
