US Mint Gold Repriced Today 4/27/2011

MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 36,039 ✭✭✭✭✭
Today was a holiday in London, so there was no fix in on the price of gold today.

That leaves 4 price fixes on 2 days:
.........................AM...........PM
20-Apr-11 1505.00 1501.00
21-Apr-11 1507.00 1504.00

average $1,504.25

that's 1 price level up. (last week's average: $1,475.10)

1 oz coins will move $50
1/2 oz - incl First Spouse will move $25
1/4 oz - will more $12.50
1/10 oz - will move $5
and the 4 coin sets will move $92.50

Interesting. Not buying gold this year. Does this effect the medal of honor gold commemoratives also? If I was going to buy it would be that one.

The mint does not include the commemoratives in the pricing grid they have. The pricing grid only applies to Gold Buffs, AGE, and First Spouse, plus Platinum Eagles. No Silver.

If a precious metal made significant moves, I'm sure they'd reprice anything with that precious metal in it.

    .......................AM..........PM
    20-Apr-11 1505.00 1501.00
    21-Apr-11 1507.00 1504.00
    26-Apr-11 1505.00 1497.50

    average $1,503.25

The gold commemoratives weigh 8.359 grams or 0.2687 troy ounces, and are 90% gold (10% "alloy")
    proof ($454.95) unc. ($444.95)
or $362.81 in gold melt @ $1500 gold

The silver commemoratives weigh 26.730 grams or 0.8594 troy ounces and are 90% silver (10% copper)
    proof ($59.95) unc. ($54.95)
about $34.80 in silver melt @ $45 silver

There's still wiggle room at these prices, so I don't expect a repricing, especially on the gold, any time soon.

I pulled the trigger yesterday on the 1 ouncer... I'd been on the fence about this all week, but if I convince myself it's money in the bank, it's less of an issue.

Edited to Note at 1:42 PDT, Gold reached $1,527.50...

Methinks if Bernanke keeps talking, Mint's re-pricing could take place twice within one week!

High cost of PM's may translate into lower Mint Sales?

It would be so much more convenient if they'd simply remove the veil of secrecey, and let us print out own money... we're doing already, anyway... it's just that it would be more convenient...

that'd be better than printing it and giving it to banks that don't loan it, but invest it for themselves.

perhaps Ben's helicopter idea isn't so foolish sounding after all.
