  • Hi,

It is nearly 5 a.m., but "I'd leave that alone" is probably decent advice.

I see no PVC on this one... I would save the solvent for another day!

Acetone will not beautify a coin, it will only remove contaminates such as PVC plasticizer.

Would it be all that dangerous to the coin to use acetone on it? What is the worse that could happen---some of those dark dirty spots would come off the coin?

Soak it in acetone for a few minutes. It won't hurt the coin and will help remove anything on the surface that might cause spots later.I like the how the coin looks now,but theres always a chance something harmful could be on the surface.

Acetone will only remove the crud...no harm to the coin/metal. Nice coin, but if the crud bothers you, go ahead. Cheers, RickO

good advice, if it was still in circulation I doubt it would look like this, clean off the crap and stick it in your album.

It looks fine the way it is. While acetone might "only" remove the darker specks on the coin, what lies under those darker specks might hurt the eye appeal of the piece. For example, if what is under those darker specks is a bunch of lighter areas then the coin might look weird after an acetone bath.
