Guess the Grade, colorful Merc and WL Half Proofs Grades revealed 1st post!

blu62vetteblu62vette Posts: 11,945 ✭✭✭✭✭
Edit: Both coins are graded PF68

These coins belong to a lurker, who wishes to remain anonymous, but I thought it would be fun to get some opinions on these 2 coins. Maybe with enough comments we can bring him out of hiding.

What are your thoughts? Dime is in a Fatty holder, Walker NGC holder.

1942 Walking Liberty Half, just one coin. One image straight on, one more for the mirrors:

If they're not graded 67 or higher, they would be today.

The '42 proof has a look of AT that I have seen many times on business strikes, but I'm thinking this one is Natural.

    Nice coins!

I do not care what the grades are.

    I want both coins, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those are two of the most colorful and eye appealing 1936-1942 proof coins I have ever seen [I seem to recall WTGC posting a to die for rainbow toned proof Mercury dime some time ago that is similar to the dime posted in this thread]. Talk about Eye Candy.

Wouldn't it be great to put together a complete set of 1936-1942 proofs that have toning like the pictured coins?

Agree. Grades are not the story here albeit these are both up there. The eye appeal of these proofs are off the charts at least to me. MJ

I grade the dime $1800 and the half $3000.

    67, twice.

The WLH does not feature a super-solid strike. No full branch definition, nor eagle's leg feathering.

The second shot was for mirrors. WLH proofs have to be one of the hardest coins to shoot especially color with deep mirrors. The image is not of of focus. MJ

Wow - these are exceptional pieces and exceptional photographs.

FWIW, I don't think the images are out of focus, the mirror of the surfaces sometimes gives that illusion... proofs are some of the most difficult coins to take great photos of.

The dime could be a 69*.
The half I think is 67*.
    When in doubt, don't.

The '42 proof had my spider sense tingling a bit as well, but i concur NT/MA. That Dime looks great even in the ginormous photo.

Both are gorgeous. I'd go with at least 67 on both, but what does it matter with color like that? I see a couple threads tonight talking about sexy coins (or disdain for using that adjective for coins), these two certainly would qualify as sexy, dontcha think??

If I understand Todd's post, they're both in NGC holders, so I will guess
    PF68*
    PF67*

Don't know how readily NGC stars these proofs but these should certainly qualify.

To the owner: please join the fun. I have made more than my share of gaffes (spelling?) here and haven't been roasted too badly yet. Plus I for one would like to see more of your coins.
